Now that I've got a second wind:
Star Trek Board Games Night was the only real highlight of the work week. The long anticipated evening finally took place on Thursday night, as Sarah, Angela, Roman, Brit. Peter, and I gathered at the former's apartment to play. We had a terrible lot of fun with our sticker communicators and rank pins and being insolent at the Klingon on the television screen who had hijacked the ship. (Though we were always careful to preface snark with a "Yes, Captain Kavok." It was a frantic, mad dash to the end of the first game, only to be denied bridge access and get the ship blown up and let an inter-galactic war start between the Klingons and the Federation. Sigh. The second game ended much faster and knowing all of the dialogue and twists, the effect wasn't quite the same.
After we'd won, I awarded Sarah with a sticker medal of valour and responded to my "Live long and prosper." with a glomp. Peter, Roman and I then had a long discussion about our favourite starship classes. I am still partial to the Defiants and Intrepids, but Steamrunners are some nifty looking ships too. We all agreed that they tried too hard on the Enterprise E and that Enterprise C was really ugly.
From there, the conversation spiraled in other sci-fi directions, largely to a glowing, non-spoilery review of Babylon 5, but some Firefly and Farscape mixed in for good measure. It was grand and it seems I have to watch Babylon 5. I'm sure many of you will corroborate the sentiment in the comments.
All in all, a short but very sweet evening.
