The Interview:
tinyangl, 2038 words
Note: In which I write this from someone that's not only not part of Tegomassuki, but not even a part of JE to begin with. :DDD In which Tegomassuki totally don't know what it means to not be silly and wacky even during an interview.
(Side) Note: In which
cynicalism admits that the only reason she posted the last one (alternating ftw!) is so I could post this one. :DDD (In which I say her name multiple times in my head otherwise this note'll turn out longer than it should.) In which more than one person (aka
jadedfrenzy and
amaikoryori writes for our world and makes me and Cyn go all wibbly because people actually buy into this world and don't brick us in their fury. In which there are suddenly more people who have joined/watched this comm to which I say Thank you~ :D (In which this fic was much longer than I thought it was. O.O)
Mizuhiko Sakuya from Duet magazine is the first person to ever interview Johnny's Entertainment's newest sensation - a mixed trio consisting of the very first female to ever join the company. She had to admit that she was beyond nervous; it was the interview of a lifetime. Talking to the three personalities and the one female to ever be integrated into an all male company. She had questions prepared - hard hitting ones that involved emotions and tears and blood. And she immediately threw them out as soon as she made them.
Her boss had been very specific. Ask about the connection. Horikita-san's integration into the company. How they act together. Is it fun? Simple questions. Something they would probably get all the time, and Sakuya didn't want to be just another of those interviewers. She was worth more, especially beyond having to interview pop stars who didn't know they had a good thing until they lost it. But this was her job now and she can't fight the facts.
She approaches the room where they were to have the interview in trepedation, but as she comes closer, she can hear the sound of uproarious laughter coming from inside. Opening the door, she finds a boy sitting in a chair and a girl with...another girl sitting on her lap? Sakuya flips through her notes quickly as she tries to remember if it had in fact been two girls that entered the company. She comes to a page about Tegoshi Yuya and hides her sigh of relief. Has strong feminine features - girl in disguise???
"Ne! Are you the one interviewing us?" The girl... no, boy on the girl's lap asks. Sakuya wants to raise an eyebrow at the close proximity between the girl and the boy (his arm is around her neck and she distinctly remembers him and the girl, Horikita Maki, being nose to nose when she had first opened the door). She doesn't, but she does mentally make a note that she should ask if there are any relationships in the group.
"Ah, yes!" Sakuya exclaims as she rushes inside the room, closing the sliding door behind her. She settles into the seat across from the three and observes that the three seem strangely close for group members (even though she's almost positive their group was only formed a week ago). Tegoshi (she remembers another note of how Tegoshi was apparently very touchy-feely. Likes physical contact.) is sitting comfortably on Maki's lap and the girl in question doesn't seem the least bit unsettled by his close contact In fact, she seems used to it as though this happens all the time. The two sit on one chair, Tegoshi's intended chair beside them, empty except for Maki's small hand bag. Masuda Takahisa (the last member of the trio) sits right next to Maki, his chair so close that he sits with his shoulder brushing against Maki's at random intervals as he fidgets in his seat, swaying from side to side, and Tegoshi's feet dangle right next to Massu's. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Mizuhiko Sakuya from Duet."
"I'm Tegoshi Yuya!" Tegoshi exclaims, even doing the hand motion which makes Sakuya raise an eyebrow, a quirk of a smile on her lips.
Maki giggles, her eyes shining as her arms wrap firmly around Tegoshi's waist to keep him in place. "I'm Horikita Maki, very nice to meet you," she bobs her head slightly to indicate a bow.
Massu bends slightly at the waist, an attempt at a bow in his seat, "Masuda Takahisa, very nice to meet you as well." He grins at her and it instantly reminds Sakuya of another note - The mood-maker of his groups. His smiles can cheer anyone up. (It's been tested.)
"We're Tegomassuki!" The three chime together, before bursting into giggles and giving each other side glances. Sakuya notes this with amusement, scribbling down random notes about their interactions with each other. She pulls out a tape recorder from her bag, setting it on the table in front of them.
"Would you mind if I record this?" she asks, crossing her legs and setting her notepad on top of her lap.
Massu shakes his head, "No trouble! Makes it easier, ne?" Sakuya nods and he grins, "Then feel free."
She almost breathes another sigh of relief. They seem fun, not stuck up like some pop stars and she can already feel the warmth in their connection. Which leads her to her first question. "The three of you seem really comfortable together. How long have you known each other?" She watches as the two boys seem to ponder this while Maki, who has this gentle smile on her face, already seems to know.
"We met the day I entered the company," Maki explains. "Which was about 5 months ago. They were the first people to bring me around and the reason why I'm..." She pauses here and Sakuya wonders if she's seeing things and Tegoshi hadn't just tightened his grasp around Maki's neck and Massu hadn't just reached out to grasp Maki's hand into his own for comfort. "The reason why I'm accepted in the company."
Sakuya nods, scribbling a note on how protective the other two bandmates were of their female partner. "Was it difficult getting used to a change in company?"
"Ah," Maki murmurs, thinking on it. "Well, it's bound to. It's such a change, working from some place that I've been at for years to this company that's male dominated and I barely know most of the people who work here." Sakuya nods again, noting down the bitter-sweet tone in Maki's voice.
"Maki-chan," Tegoshi murmurs softly and instantly, the longing for her past company (Sakuya assumes anyway) is wiped out of Maki's eyes and Sakuya watches as the girl's eyes light up.
"But it's fine now. I've gained a lot of friends within the company," Maki grins, her tone changing entirely as her eyes dart to the one on her lap and the one to the side. Tegoshi grins, snuggling up to Maki, his nose against her cheek and she pulls away, laughing. Sakuya notes, a large smile on her face (she couldn't stop herself from holding it back anymore) that Maki genuinely seems to like her friends.
Sakuya flips to another page of her notepad where she had kept all her questions. She looks up when she finds one she wants to ask, "So how does it feel being the first girl in Johnny's entertainment?"
Maki opens her mouth to respond, but Tegoshi speaks first, "It was so great! Even though it was such a change, people really warmed up to me fast."
Sakuya's jaw drops as Massu starts laughing loudly, a hand on Maki's shoulder as he tries not to fall off his chair in laughter. Maki looks just as amused, her giggles loud as Tegoshi simply looks pleased with his own reply. Massu manages to choke out a moment later, "Tegoshi, she said girl in Johnny's and she was talking to Maki-chan."
Her hand darts across the paper as she tries to write some note about how Tegoshi looks a little startled at the news that he's not really a female (or something like that), but the words are messily written as her hands shakes, the silent laughter wracking her body. Tegoshi's mouth opens to form a perfect "O" before laughing awkwardly. "Of course, I heard her wrong."
Maki's laughter grows, but then Tegoshi pouts and Sakuya's a little amused at the fact that their laughter starts to die down steadily. "Oh," Maki breathes, trying to catch her breath. "It was definitely something the guys there had to get used to. As well as the fans. But, the backlash wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be."
Massu grins wickedly, "That's because people keep mistaking you for Tegoshi."
Sakuya fails to hide her laughter as both Tegoshi and Maki turn to glare at the oldest member of their group. "They do not!" Tegoshi protests, lightly swinging his leg to kick Massu. Massu only laughs harder and Maki is half leaning on Tegoshi as she laughs.
Sakuya shakes her head, knowing now why she had heard laughter as soon as she entered the room. "How about you two? Was it weird having to add a girl to your already established group?"
"Well, it seems we already had one, according to Tegoshi," Massu says easily which prompts Tegoshi to stick his tongue out at Massu. The older male only laughs lightly before answering properly, "It really wasn't. After that first meeting, we seemed to just click. Like we'd always been missing her before." Maki lightly "aww"s and Tegoshi's grin couldn't get any wider.
"Do you three hang out outside of the company?" Sakuya asks, turning back from the page with all her questions. The grins on their faces just grow and Sakuya expects them to burst into laughter at any second.
"Well, there was that time in karaoke," Tegoshi starts and Maki and Massu nod vigorously, seeming to know exactly what Tegoshi was talking about.
"Oh, oh!" Maki exclaims excitedly, "Or there was that time at the zoo!"
Massu grins, "We almost got in trouble because of Tegoshi."
"It's not my fault that the kitty was purring! I wanted to pet it!" Tegoshi pouts again.
"It was a lion," Maki says slowly, as though just explaining it.
Tegoshi glares at her, but it's a weird look on such an innocent face and Sakuya wants to tell him to stop. He does a second later without her having to say a word. "Well, at least I didn't spit out my drink in front of the waiter because he asked you for an autograph."
Massu fidgets awkwardly in his seat, "It was weird!" Maki laughs harder, her grip on Tegoshi's waist getting tighter. Sakuya has to wonder how the three get anything done.
"So I guess this means that you hang out often?" Sakuya asks.
Maki nods as Massu says, "Yup. It's fun to hang out with each other. We do the usuals - shopping, karaoke."
"Eating!" Tegoshi adds in cheerfully and Sakuya has to laugh at his enthusiasm.
"Lastly, how do you think you'll do together as a group?" she asks, positioning her pen over her paper as she expects to write a lot for this particular question.
"We'll succeed!" Tegoshi cheers, thrusting an arm in the air with conviction.
Massu grins, "We'll stick together and never waver."
"We'll sell lots of singles and perform for concerts," Maki adds in.
"And never stop being friends," Tegoshi ends. The three exchange looks and Sakuya thinks she'll melt into goo at the adorableness that is Tegomassuki. She leans over, shutting off her tape recording and smiling as she puts it away.
"That was a great interview, you three. I think that'll have a lot of material." She stands up, thrusting out her hand to shake each of theirs. "This was a lot of fun."
Each person shakes her hand firmly, a smile on each of their faces. "It was a lot of fun," Maki agrees, reassuring Sakuya with her words without really knowing it. "I was a little scared of how this would go, but you made it painless."
Sakuya grins, "I'm glad." She makes her way out the door, but stops just as she's about to leave. Turning around, she says, "Off the record, are there any relationships within the group?"
Tegoshi laughs loudly, "No way! Maki-chan's boyfriend'd get maddddd at us." Sakuya raises an eyebrow, but doesn't ask the question that she wants to ask, but would most likely not get a response to.
Instead, she asks, "So how are you able to sit on her lap so..." she pauses, groping for the right words. "So intimately."
Maki laughs at this, "It's because he's like my little brother."
"Isn't he... older than you?" Sakuya asks just as Tegoshi frowns at Maki.
"Yeah! I am!" Tegoshi protests.
Massu's looking at Sakuya with a toothy grin, "It's because he acts more like his shoe size than his age." Sakuya laughs as Tegoshi cries out a loud "Massu!" She bows to them, thanking them for their time before exiting. It wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. If all her pop star interviews were as nice and friendly as those three were, she'd be happy with any assignment her boss would give her. They'd go far, she thinks. She hopes anyway. They'd deserve it.
