Name: Akemi Kasai
Age: 16
Birthday: April 11th
Grade Average: C/D
History:
Akemi Kasai was born into a middle class family on April 11th. Unfortunately it wasn’t long after, just three days, that her mother died of complications from the birth. Akemi grew up with her father, Jun, and brother Eiichi, until she was four, when Jun then took the decision upon himself that he needed a wife, as he couldn’t cope raising his children on his own. After a few years, when Akemi was six years old, her father remarried a woman named Hanae. At first, the family seemed a unit again, but the fear of losing another wife pushed Akemi’s father to work extra hours to further his career in a bureaucratic job, in order to secure his new wife’s interest through a ‘better’ lifestyle, even if this meant sacrificing the time he spent with his own children.
Originally, Hanae loved having Eiichi and Akemi, treating them as though they were her own children. This was relatively short lived, and her interest in them dwindled, before it disappeared completely, only to be replaced by the birth of her own daughter, Kiyoko.
Her father had become a new man, through all this time. He was immensely proud of his new family, and expected his two children from his previous wife to fit congruently with this new life. He became intolerant of their mistakes and accidents, resulting in their opinion that he was cold, and hardened towards the previous life that they represented. Through this, Akemi and Eiichi, although growing closer with each other, grew more and more independent, and inevitably, lived separate lives from their father and step-mother, sharing little more than a house. The strict rules laid before them by their father has only been challenged by Akemi, unlike Eiichi, who has chosen to obey them to keep his father off of his back. Akemi hasn’t outright rebelled, as she finds it cliché and would prefer to live her own life, regardless of whether or not it corresponds with her father’s rules, rather than specifically set out to defy him, however she sees the clear fun in setting out to purposefully wind him up.
Appearance: She’s an average height, of about 5”3 or 5"4. Her dark hair is kept long, and in good condition. She makes no obvious attempt to follow clothing fashions, but makes her own personal style, without falling too far behind the trends. More than likely to be dressed casually, but has no objections of dressing feminine or sophisticated, if she’s in the mood. Akemi is not vain, strictly speaking, but, rather, takes pride in what she wears or how she looks. She doesn’t see herself as a ‘pretty girl’, in spite of what she has told by a few others, but it hasn’t stopped any personal relationships or encounters in the past.
Personality:
Akemi is a girl of few words, opting to keep herself enigmatic to those around her that aren‘t particularly close to her, so that she can resist any expectations they may come to have of her. She does this without coming across as shy, but rather appearing as though she is observing every situation before she acts. However, frequently to the surprise of her peers, she is quick to get involved with other people’s arguments, verbal or otherwise, even if they haven’t anything to do with her. She prefers this to be in the form of passing sarcasm, but she’s willing to back up her words with actions, if needs be. More often than not, she chooses to take the side of the ‘underdog’. She’s not even sure why she does this herself, but it may have links to her own vulnerability, that she masks with her quiet, and rather serious exterior, though for some reason, she manages to keep herself from fading into the background.
Inwardly, and to those that have managed to get to know her, she is passionate, fiery, and faithful toward those who have shown kindness to her, or have befriended her.
Rather than following the rules that are presented in front of her, she chooses the ones that ‘feel right’ to her, and disregards any that create unease within herself. However self-assured she comes across as, Akemi has low self-worth, more than likely due to the rejection she feels from the virtual abandonment of herself and Eiichi, that her father has resorted to. As a way to confirm some value and build a little confidence, Akemi tries to part-take in a couple of school societies, becoming fiercely competitive in an attempt to secure a little belief in herself.
Strangely enough, she finds it hard to say ‘No’ to a friend in need. She does have a good sense of humour, and can be fun to be around for those that have made an effort to find out, all the while learning she becomes protective of her friends, treating them as the replacement for the family life that she doesn’t have.
Strengths:
Independent - Has looked after herself in terms of home-life, and also emotionally. Doesn’t rely on anyone, as she sees very few people she can lean on. For some reason, feels wanted when people rely on her, if and when she can be bothered.
Loyal - Does what she can to stand by a friend.
Passionate - Commits to clubs and societies with all that she can, almost as an emotional outlet. This is the same passion she develops for any of her friends.
Patient - Her attitude is very “it’ll happen when it happens” and doesn’t see the point in getting impatient, but prefers to take the opportunity sit with a cigarette and wait.
Weaknesses:
Involved in fights easily - Unsure why she does this, Akemi just sees the need to help the underdog in a fight or argument. This can obviously lead to enemies, in the more popular ‘bitch’ cliques.
Disregard for rules - (See above) Obeys the rules that she agrees with, ignores the rest.
Low confidence - Sees little of herself that is worth anything important.
Seemingly unapproachable - Her quiet, serious attitude only fades when she is with those that she calls her friends. This is only so she isn’t dumped in a particular clique (something that she despises), and keeps her from revealing too much about her own life.
Takes a while to open up - A conscious effort has to be made by someone to find out what Akemi’s really thinking, perhaps making her appear untrustworthy, even when not the case.
Extra curricular activities:
Track running, and swimming are the ones she is most associated with, and the activities she is more seriously dedicated to. She also has a keen interest in dance and movement, but is a little unsure whether she wants to take the leap and join a class or society.
Overnight Bag : Two packs, at least, of cigerettes, iPod, a half pack of matches, t-shirt and trousers, trainers, a light jacket, a few items of jewelery, a note from Eiichi, a hair brush, bare essentials of make-up (ie. lip-balm, blush, eye-liner) and an old notepad and pen.
Relationships:
Family
Jun Kasai - [Father]
A strict man, with little tolerance of his children, who perceive him as cold and bitter toward them, as they are a reminder of his previous wife. Although, he can’t help but to favour his new family, who are symbolic of a new life for himself, he does care about Akemi and Eiichi a great deal. He covers this with his stern exterior, a trait picked up by Akemi, and has thus led them to believe that he wishes they no longer exist. He seems to only take an interest when telling Akemi what she's not allowed to do. Didn't help things along by the fact that he hated Eizo.

Chiasa Kasai - [Mother - Deceased]
Akemi doesn’t give her mother much thought. She’s rarely discussed and Akemi doesn’t know that much about her. There are few photos of her kept in the house any more, and she seems nothing but a memory of Jun, and Eiichi, since Akemi never knew her. Akemi knows that Eiichi knows more about her, but she’s never felt compelled to ask. Her attitude is very “you can’t miss what you never had”, and although she asked questions about her when she was little, Akemi rarely asks, or thinks about her now.

Eiichi Kasai, 18 - [Brother]
Akemi and Eiichi are very close. He is a model student, extremely smart and kind, and a lot more popular in his own school class. He has a lot of respect for little sister, and the feeling is mutual. Akemi is extremely protective of him, and hates all of his girlfriends, deeming none of them good enough. Eiichi usually laughs this off. He is a stickler for rules, and is forever trying to make Akemi adhere to them, for her own good. Eiichi has a crush on Seira, Akemi's BFF, virtually, and this has led to a complicated secret between them, right under Akemi's nose. DUNDUNDUNNNN.

Hanae Kasai - [Step Mother]
Although in the beginning Akemi and Eiichi were very fond of Hanae, her rapid loss of interest has further alienated them from the family. Akemi dislikes her, and refers to her as ‘the roommate’ rather than ‘mother’ or anything of the like. Hanae’s own child is spoiled, and Akemi has a twinge of jealousy toward her. This is something Akemi keeps hidden, as she thinks herself pathetic for being envious of a child.

Kiyoko Kasai, 10 - [Half-Sister]
A spoiled child plagued by the common phrase “I want”. She is bad tempered, and rarely talks to Akemi directly, frequently telling her “I hate you” or leaving her out of ‘My family’ essays altogether…not that Akemi cares much.

Classroom Behaviour:
Akemi is frustrating as a student. She shows the ability to improve her resuts by at least a grade, but appears to do nothing about making a jump to a higher standard. She is constantly zoning out in the middle of class, and looks disinterested except when covering biology, which she seems to naturally enjoy and achieve somewhat good grades at. Maybe if she spent more time studying, than in the pool or even 'hanging out' with her friends, she'd come out with a decent grade.
Classroom Relationships:
Boys:
Eizo Horiguchi - Until recently, (about three months before Battle Royale) Eizo and Akemi dated for about 11 months. She's a little pissed off she didn't make it to a year... (More to add... ROB AND I FIND THIS MORE DIFFICULT THAN EIZO AND AKEMI EVER DID.)
Kenji Matsuda - She has no deep interest in him intimately, but Akemi cisn't able to understand his nice guy personality, and is forever curious to know if he's being genuine and sincere. Left alone, she'd more than likely get to a point were she'd ask if he ever felt the urge to rebel ("Like, Kenji, what's the deal, yo?"), but she has a sense that there is some kind of awkward air between them, and for this reason, she doesn't make much of an effort.
Taro Hanazawa - Akemi met Taro through friends and eventually they started hanging out on their own, and becoming really rather close. She thinks he's adorable, and loves to tease him in good humour, knowing that he'll give the same right back. She's very attached to his friendship, although she insists she doesn't get all soppy. (To be added to...)
Ryo Jo - Akemi and Ryo are friends. They enjoy a couple cigerettes together, and a chat. Although Akemi would be extremely outspoken when she's in a pissy mood, and would tell Ryo outright that his happiness was bothering her, she feels they share a good enough relationship that she can tell him to shut up, and it won't affect their friendship permanently.
Yuya Murakami - Akemi can tell he's not that fussed on her, since she fights in school, and he stays away in order to keep out of her path. She has attempted to drop hints in the past that she doesn't just launch into anyone for no reason, but he still seems unsure, so she has lost the will to care. She thinks he's sound enough though, and has more of a neutral opinion of him.
Masakichi Baba - When dating Eizo, they hung around a lot more, but now that they have split, they don't as much. In saying this, they are still friends, and Akemi likes him.
Girls:
Seira Asagiri - Akemi sees Seira as her closest female friend. She is extremely loyal toward Seira, and although they don't particularly show similar interests, they get along very well, and see any disagreements as an interesting twist to their friendship. This is most obvious when discussing Sasuke, especially since Akemi refuses to acknowledge Makoto Nagano as her favourite or the ultimate, proclaiming her love for Shunsuke Nagasaki, Naoki Iketani or Daisuke Nakata, and although she likes Nagano, she'll tell Seira she doesn't, just to wind her up.. This is particularly special, since Akemi and Seira met at a Sasuke tournament, and have been bickering ever since.
Emi Sekiyama - Akemi would like Emi if she wasn't as gossip-y or vain. Don't get her wrong, she likes her fine, and has nothing against her, but certain aspects she can find to be irritating. However, when she's in the mood, she's more than happy to have a conversation with Emi, and rather than point out anything that irritates her about Emi, Akemi would just walk away when Emi starts to bitch, so long as it isn't about any of her close friends.
Miki Honda - Akemi doesn't have too much of an opinion of Miki. She's not really into the whole hippy scene that Miki and Ryo are into, but she doesn't actively dislike her for it. She's not rude toward Miki, but she doesn't get her ass in a cramp to make much of an effort, either. She'd talk to her occassionally, and is polite. Well, as polite as Akemi can be.
Honami Baba - Akemi could kill her at times. The jokes can get on her nerves. Honami has realised that she should back away from Akemi on days wheen she isn't in the mood for pranks, and clown-antics. This means that, even though Akemi is decent friends with her brother, Honami is more often unacknowledged on the radar, because Akemi is simply too lazy to make the effort.
Kiku Mori - Akemi is somewhat polite to her. They have shared a few chats, but Akemi is more likely to abuse Kiku's accomodating nature for free homeworks. When she's nice to Kiku, she's okay, but when she's rude, she can just lose interest completely mid-sentence. Although Akemi appreciates Kiku is trying to help, Kiku should probably acknowledge that while suggesting debates or extra-curricular activities seems to be a helpful thing, it might wind up with Akemi suggesting a few helpful places where Kiku could shove her suggestions.
Hana Gomi - Akemi could well be accused of being quite brutal to Hana. "You've so much make-up on, I could score my name in the powder...Natural it up!" However, she respects that Hana has so much confidence in herself, and how she looks, considering Akemi doesn't value herself. She fights with Hana constantly, but it isn't uncommon for the two to be seen talking, or hanging out for a while in school. Akemi is not concerned with what people think of her for hanging out with someone like Hana.
