So...I met Lieutenant Uhura. Odd, because I've seen her three or four times. I'm not into autographs; I've been going to cons for 20+ years, and my autograph collection I can count on one hand, and those are the ones who are IMPORTANT to me: Anthony Stewart Head, Adam West, Yvonne Craig, George Takei, and now Nichelle Nichols.
She was CHARMING. And SO beautiful! She's WAY prettier now than 40 years ago. It's quite scary.
So I (for the first time ever) got in a Photo Op line, and got my picture taken with a star. She noticed my IDIC, and said, "Oh! I have one of those. And people sometimes notice it, and say, "Oh, you're a Trekker! And then they look at my face, and go -- "Oh!!!" " She was utterly, utterly charming, and sweet, and beautiful. And I wish I could have told her what she meant to me, growing up; but then, I'm sure she's heard it before...
So Shore Leave 29 ends. On a very good note. J hung out with Aaron Douglas, not realizing who he was. And J got called "Kilt Guy" by every woman. And Jim and Miles were, as ever, SUPERLATIVE bartenders. And Tom was drunk, which is odd; I don't know that I've ever seen Tom drunk. And I met a really cute author and his partner, and I wish I liked the author's work better. I think I like his story, so far, but he needs serious help with his style. Oh, well; he said he didn't mind concrit, so I shall try to give him some! And the DJ at Ten-Forward played "Dancing Queen", and commented that there were two ACTUAL Dancing Queens on the floor, so I guess it's not a bad thing to say...? Who knows! I'm learning...
And it was fun. And peaceful. And I got waffles. And Darlene's doing well, despite three blood clots. And I spent WAY too much money. And so did J. But then again -- it's Shore Leave!
