Summary: This is for the prompt in
Procrastination Enabling Meme "Ryo and Shige fighting for Pi's affection" based on the LIVE!x3 fanreports. It turned out kind of lame, lol.
A Gauntlet Thrown
"You can't have him."
Shige blinked politely at his senior, pausing in the act of lowering his bag. "Nishikido-kun," he greeted, in an effort to be polite.
"Shige," Ryo replied, just as politely, out of habit. And then, not to be derailed, "You can't have him. Not this year."
Shige looked around the dressing room. Koyama and Tegoshi were being loud, as usual, while Massu sat near them, fixing his hair with a long-suffering expression on his face. Yamapi was nowhere to be seen. "Is Yamashita-kun not here yet?"
Ryo's nostrils flared. "You can't have him," he said again, more forcefully this time, aiming a finger at Shige's nose for emphasis before turning on his heel and storming out of the room.
Shige watched him go and smiled.
Round 1
The club was as crowded as ever, and Shige was getting a bit drunk. Yamapi and Ryo were just fine, however. They've had much more practice.
"Here, have another round, Pi," Ryo said, pushing a shot glass toward the former, who was grooving to the music in his chair.
Yamapi obediently knocked back the drink. "Thanks, Ryo-chan!" he said with a rare grin that probably blinded everyone within a fifty-meter radius.
Ryo, in the act of swallowing beer, nearly choked on it.
"Hey, I like this song!" Yamapi announced. "I'm going to dance. What about you two?"
Shige was faster on his feet than Ryo, although he was a bit more unsteady. "I'll dance, too!"
Ryo snorted and looked scornfully down his nose at Shige -- an impressive feat for someone who was actually shorter than who he was looking down upon. "Why don't you stay here? Seeing as how you can barely stand."
"Why don't you stay?" Shige retorted, fortified by liquid courage. "Seeing as how it's so crowded, someone might not see you and step on you by accident."
"You can't dance. Not even when you're sober," Ryo smirked. "They'll throw you out in disgust."
"They could throw you out for looking underaged."
"Hi!" a girl said loudly, materializing behind Yamapi's shoulder. "Do you want to dance?"
"Um..." Yamapi looked at Ryo and Shige, who were ignoring him in favor of glaring at each other. "Okay."
They both looked after Yamapi, watching helplessly as the girl led him out to the dance floor.
"This is your fault," Ryo said sullenly, sitting back down and picking up his beer.
"I hate you."
Round 2
"Good mor--"
Koyama's cheerful greeting was cut off by Tegoshi rushing over and clamping a hand over his mouth. "Kei-chan, let's be quiet over here," he said softly, smiling through clenched teeth, before dragging Koyama toward the couch to join an already-cowering Massu.
"What's going on?" Koyama asked in a hushed voice.
"What do you think?" Tegoshi sighed.
"I refuse to believe you!" Ryo was shouting at Shige.
"Fine. It doesn't change the fact that Yamashita-kun messaged me to say he'll be late because he had to film something," Shige replied calmly, setting his hair in front of the mirror.
"Why didn't he send me a message?"
"Well, I wouldn't know that," Shige said.
"We've known each other for over half our lives!"
"That doesn't mean anything."
"We were together all day yesterday. Why didn't he tell me?"
"He took me out on my birthday," Shige countered. "Just the two of us. All night."
Ryo frowned. "What does that have to do with anything?"
"I don't know. I thought we were just throwing stuff out there."
Ryo crossed his arms over his chest. "We've slept over at each other houses."
"He mentioned me in his nikki."
"He's mentioned me, too!"
"He mentioned me in Potato."
"He mentioned me in Duet!"
Koyama sighed as the glaring contest started. "Can I go home?"
"I need gyoza," Massu whimpered.
Round 3
The crowd was loud and hyped up, and Ryo was having the time of his life. He wasn't even really thinking at this point, just letting the lyrics fall out of his mouth by instinct. If you asked him what song he was singing, he didn't even know. There was music, and there were just words that went with it.
It didn't help that Pi had his arm wrapped firmly around Ryo, his side glued to Ryo's side, and Ryo felt like Tokyo Dome was a massive ocean, and he was drowning at the bottom of it. He could die on the spot, happy.
He caught a movement out of the corner of his eye and he furrowed his brow as Shige approached. A quick sweep with his eyes across the stage told Ryo that Massu, Tegoshi, and Koyama were all wrapped up in each other already.
Shige was closer now, and he was raising his arms. Ryo's first thought was to kick him aside. But he couldn't do that so he shoved him instead.
Shige's look of surprise was both gratifying and amusing. But he stepped forward and tried once more.
Ryo shoved him again.
This time Shige looked hurt. But he seemed to get the message and drifted away, standing all by himself in the middle of the stage, looking forlorn.
Ryo almost felt sorry for him. But then Pi's arm around him tightened and he grinned. Hah.
Round 3 - Rematch
"Ryo-chan was kind of mean to Shige earlier."
Ryo blinked and stared at Pi as they lounged backstage, all showered and ready to go home, just waiting for the other members to finish showering themselves. "What?"
"When you pushed him. He looked kind of offended. You might have hurt his feelings."
Of all the times for Yamapi to be sensitive, it had to be now? For Shige? "The fans loved it," Ryo said defensively. "It was just us being us."
"Ryo, do you like Shige?"
Ryo gaped at him. "WHAT?"
"It's just that you're always teasing him."
Ryo was torn between punching Pi for being insulting (and an idiot) and telling him the reason why he and Shige were currently (always) at odds. "I don't like Shige," he said instead.
"I don't like you, either," Shige replied, returning from the shower.
Pi jumped away from Ryo, draping a casual arm across Shige's shoulders. "Hey, Shige! Want to go out for a drink tonight?"
Shige looked surprised, eyes darting from Ryo to Pi, and back again. "Uh...sure. Is Nishikido-kun coming with us?"
Ryo had barely opened his mouth before Pi answered for him.
"He has drama filming early tomorrow," Pi said. "Let me make up for his being mean to you today."
"Oh. Okay!" Shige said, letting Pi steer him from the room.
Ryo watched them leave, clenching his hand tightly into a fist.
"Ryo-chan, doesn't that hurt?"
Ryo looked up, meeting Koyama's concerned gaze. He hadn't even noticed the other boy coming in. "What?"
"Your hand... The tea...?"
Ryo looked down at the crushed styrofoam cup of hot tea in his hand and at his soaked pants. In the next second, the room was filled the sound of Ryo's voice, swearing eloquently in rage and pain.
Round 4
Yamapi was drunk.
Shige hurriedly pushed a few glasses aside to keep Yamapi's head from slamming into them. Yamapi's head slammed into the table instead, which probably still hurt, but at least he wouldn't have glass shards in his face.
"Ow," Yamapi muttered a few seconds later.
Shige sighed softly. Yamapi had been drinking like it was his mission to drain the bar dry, ever since they stepped inside it. "Yamashita-kun, maybe we should go home."
"What? No," he said, lifting his head and squinting at Shige. "Aren't you having fun?"
"Watching you get drunk? Well, it's kind of boring at this point."
"I'm not--" a hiccup "--drunk."
"Uh-huh."
And Yamapi's head crashed down onto the table again.
Shige stared down at him, waiting for a sign of life. Just when he decided that Yamapi must have fallen asleep, the other man began to murmur softly and Shige leaned down, straining to hear.
"Ryo-chan," Yamapi said, quite clearly, followed by a string of words that were too fast and too garbled for Shige to understand.
Shige blinked and waved a waitress over for the bill.
Knockout
Ryo was brushing his teeth when someone buzzed at the door. Who the hell comes over at this time of night? he wondered. A crazy fan?
"Nishikido-kun!"
Ryo choked on his toothpaste at the sound of that voice. The last voice he expected to hear at two in the morning. He rinsed out his mouth and stomped to the door. "This had better be good!" he shouted, yanking it open.
Shige grinned at him, a barely conscious Pi slumped against him.
Now he was just being insulting! "What are you two doing here?"
"Yamashita-kun wanted to come here."
"Couldn't you have taken him home instead?" Ryo grumbled.
Shige stepped inside, dragging Pi with him toward Ryo's bedroom and dropping him unceremoniously onto Ryo's bed.
"Oi! Drunk people should sleep on the couch!"
Pi ignored him, shifting into a more comfortable position, head half-burrowed under Ryo's pillow.
"Why are you here?" Ryo asked again.
"I told you. He wanted to come here."
"He was the one who decided that I couldn't come with you tonight."
"Because you were mean."
"Ryo-chan," Yamapi mumbled, grabbing a pillow and sighing into it.
They both stared down at him.
"Well, you've brought him here. I guess you could go home now." Ryo said, trying to shove Shige out the door.
"That's rude! I'm too tired to go anywhere! Besides, he's drunk, you know."
"I'll take care of him. He's my best friend, and all that. You can leave. You already have your own."
Shige snorted.
"What was that for?"
"This would all be so much easier if you'd just admit it."
"Admit what?" Ryo demanded, voice rising.
"Are we really fighting over who gets to be Yamashita-kun's best friend? Because you know you've already won that."
"Hah! But you've been spending all that time with him, having lunches that last hours and everything."
Shige crossed his arms over his chest. "Just admit it already!"
"Admit what?!"
"Will people who aren't going to sleep please leave the room?" Yamapi's voice suddenly shouted, startling them both into silence. "Thank you," he said, voice subsiding into his normal mumble, and closing his eyes again.
Ryo narrowed his eyes. Not even Pi could get away with kicking him out of his own room. He stomped over, prepared to drag him off the bed, but stopped dead.
Pi's hair was a tousled mess all over his face, and his full lips were slightly parted. Ryo's stomach did a couple of backflips plus a cartwheel or two for good measure. At that moment, Yamapi looked really, really-- "He looks so stupid."
Shige rolled his eyes. "I'm going home."
Ryo barely heard him leaving, as Pi rolled over onto his back, arms and legs splayed over the mattress, and occupied as much space as possible. Ryo sighed and grabbed a pillow. "I hope you don't throw up on my sheets," he just muttered before leaving, resigned to a short and uncomfortable night on the couch.
