Last night I was elected to the board of my home owners association. There were five open positions and five applicants so its not as impressive as it sounds. I've heard a lot of stories about HOAs from friends, almost all negative. Seems the majority of HOAs boards fall into the category of 'Lawn Nazis'; busy-body control freaks with aesthetic issues. I don't think that's going to be a problem with my HOA. My condo complex is 25 years old and in need of some serious maintenance to keep its value. There's not a lot of lawn to worry about, but a lot of aging infrastructure issues to deal with and fast. The current board could really use some help in the areas of organization and communication. And their parliamentary skills are weak. As long as i don't have to be sociable, I think I can help there.
