I have a theory involving the Akatsuki and the Uchiha clan.
Apologies if this has been proposed before, but I'm putting it forward for discussion's sake ...
I believe that Sir Leader of the Akatsuki is Uchiha Madara.
I distinctly remember in one of the manga chapters (I can't remember which one, but it was during the Gaara Rescue story leg, I'll check back and post it up as soon as I find it ) where there was a shot of Sir Leader, encased in shadows as usual. However, his eyes were shown very clearly, and they looked like they had Sharingan.
They looked so much like Sharingan that I thought it was Itachi at first. But being corrected later on, I just quickly dismissed the idea of Sir Leader having the Sharingan, thinking he just had ubercool eyes that just looked like it.
But after the Kyuubi mentioned Uchiha Madara and I reread the previous manga chapters, it struck me: what if Itachi joined the Akatsuki because of Madara? Maybe that's his reason for elliminating his clan.
Yeah, I know I'm reading too much into this. =P
