Summary: So I finally wrote something about those three again...
Winter war insistent this year. An almost-cold thing drenched in sleet not unlike it was in Cloud. Something that clung to the city’s asphalt and concrete architecture.
The mission was the kind of thing they did to raise funds. Protecting the man from a threat that might or might not be coming.
So she sat with him in tea houses like some almost unwilling companion, taciturn and not truly listening while he talked business with whoever he met. Sometimes she stood guard with Hidan fidgeting next to her or Kakuzu tall and straight by her side. His eyes were half-closed when she cared to look.
She realized they were relaxing for the first time in a long while, understood that they let go of the tension in their shoulders and legs like they had not done in months. It made her feel boneless and tired in a way she had not noticed she had been. So when she slept, she slept deep these days, unbothered by any of the partners. She liked to think it was because they felt just as drained on more than the physical level like her.
Sometimes she trained, ran hard and fast and without chakra like she has done last in Cloud. When she came back in the flat they had been given silence was all that encompassed her. She found Kakuzu with his wrappings gone, his sewn together face smooth and placid under the neon light and his dark hair falling into his eyes as he read.
He looked up when she entered, fixed his strange gaze questioningly upon her. She looked at him, expressionless and feeling the sweat from her run on her skin. The left corner of her mouth rose in a second-long not-smile. Then she turned away, coming to an agreement with him about she was not sure what.
