Pairing: TobiDeidara
Prompt: I don't believe I was given any.
Rating: PG-13
However, a kind of quasi-prompt came from that one icon with Tobi holding out a daisy to an annoyed looking Deidara.
Deidara regarded the offered flower with a great deal of skepticism.
“What is this?” he asked, and tried to bat the delicate thing out of his way.
“It’s a flower, Deidara-senpai.”
“I know that, un. What are you doing with it?”
“I want you to have it.”
Deidara gave Tobi a look of utter disbelief mixed with a sneer. “A flower. For me.”
“Yes!” Tobi exclaimed happily. Deidara had nearly accepted his gift. The fact that Deidara
regarded the small token as a gift made Tobi’s day.
“That’s stupid, un. Why would I want a flower?”
Tobi’s elation deflated a little. “Because it’s pretty? It would look good in your hair.”
“I don’t want pretty, un. Anyway, I don’t think the flower’s pretty at all. Flowers are
useless, un. The fact that you saw a flower and thought of me makes me seem weak, un. Throw it
away.”
Deidara thought his voice may have come out a little harsh, from how Tobi seemed to wilt along
with the flower.
“But...Deidara-senpai...flowers aren’t really weak.”
Deidara gave his partner a skeptical look.
Tobi realized he was being given a chance to prove something that Deidara didn’t believe, and
that made him perk up.
“Flowers are delicate, yes, but they’re so...vibrant. In every centimeter of them, there is
life. Everything serves a purpose too, you know. Flowers use lures to benefit themselves.
What appears to us as merely white probably echos in some other, magnificent color to the
insects; why else would fields of flowers have so many insects hovering over them in attendance?
The scent, too, can be deceiving. It draws you in and weaves a spell around you, making you let
down your guard a little, simply for the pleasure of something that smells good. I’ve heard
somewhere that scent evokes the strongest memories in people. Roses are often used as examples
of how a flower can be both delicate and brutal. True, this isn’t a rose, so there’s no point
into going on about those now. The stalk of this flower may seem delicate, but maybe if it’s
eaten, or powdered, or pasted, it could be deadly. See? Flowers are stronger than you’d think;
especially if they can survive some of the toughest weather conditions out there. I’ve heard
there are flowers even in Snow Country.”
Deidara stared at his partner for a long moment, trying to follow the leaps of thought and logic
that had been taken throughout the explanation.
“That makes...sense,” he finally conceded.
Tobi immediately glowed nearly as radiant as the sun. “See? See? Take it, senpai. Please.”
There was a note of wistfulness in Tobi’s voice that made Deidara reach out involuntarily and
take the daisy. Tobi’s hands closed over the one with which Deidara was holding the flower, and
Deidara swore he could almost see Tobi’s smile.
“Thank you, Deidara-senpai. I love you.”
Deidara had no answer to that.
