Jet Cyclones 1 - Blue Team 1
So the first game of the season went fairly well. The team unity, at least among the Neuqua members was great, but hopefully a name game will fully unite the team. The game started off with us playing a lot of defense. However, with the brick wall in goal (Sharif) we held on for quite some time. Finally when we started getting our groove on, against the run of play the Blue Team scored. After a tricky back pass to deal with, the Blue Team got the ball and were able to slot home with ease. The goal against really spurred us on though and we stepped up our attack. We finally got a break through when a very long kick by Sharif took a bounced over the defenders head, followed by a poor clearance which I was able to latch on to. I took it around the goalie and hit it towards the goal with the outside of my foot. It hit the inside of the post and the retreating goalie helped it in.
Half Time
The second half got off to a slower start than the first. Everyone was really starting to feel the burn. None of us really had any idea it was going to be so tiring. Anyway, both teams exchanged a few shots and had some decent chances with some saves having to be made by both keepers. However, the biggest chance of the half fell to our retro-forward Matt Barriball. After a delightful through ball by Pat, Matt was able to take the ball in his stride and had a clear chance on goal, only to sky rocket the ball above the bar. After the game, Barriball commented that he had intense pressure on him from behind and he had only realized this just before his shot. Barriball also went on to defend his choice of shorts, claiming he thought that everyone else was getting really short shorts, but defended his choice by stating that they allow a much better range of movement, making it easier to run.
The 1-1 score was a fair result, but hopefully we'll continue our undefeatedness in teh form of a win next week.
Until then...GO JET CYCLONES!!!
