"When you search your mind for memories, do you look over them as images on a wall, all laid out before you? Translucent yet tangible. Yeah great movie, got a couple more of Miike's films to watch, Dead or Alive and Visitor Q, will watch both, but which you recommend first? Being presumptious that you already seen em like :)

One Miike film i would definitely recommend is Audition - have you seen it? Fantastic... disturbing... film.
The best Japanese film i saw recently though, was probably Suicide Circle. That was really interesting. Versus and Dark Water are very good too!
Hope you enjoy watching your Miike films! =P

Good film too. He certainly has an active and dark imagination does ole Miike. He makes about 4 -5 movies a year.
I ended up watching Full Metal Yakuza (hows that for a movie title 8S ) thats another miike one i forgot i had...it was ok, a comedy, and was pretty mellow and tongue in cheek right up until the last 10 minutes and then in true Miike fashion there was a part that made ya cringe and feel like you really should'nt be watching it.
Anyway thats enough about movies , you'll start thinking i'm a geek or summit and i'm not, i'm dead hard really ;)
Hope you had a good weekend :)
p.s. i ain't seen none of those movies ya recommend apart from Audition, so i'll go get em..thanks :)

*lol* Why would i think you're a geek? i'm terrible once i get onto the subject of Japanese/Hong Kong cinema!
Hmm - haven't seen Full Metal Yakuza, but wouldn't mind to. On the subject of the films i mentioned, Dark Water is from the director of Ringu, so that will give you an idea of what it's like. Versus is just a great film if you don't demand too much from it. Nice combination of zombie/Yakuza/martial arts action, and a great soundtrack.
If you like yakuza/hitman films, it's not Japanese, but i really recommend Bangkok Dangerous - another film i love and that has real impact. There's a sequence in it that mirrors a Chow Yun Fat scene from A Better Tomorrow. Nice touch.
Seeeeeeee *lol* Who's the geek now?!! =P
Aaaanyway, hope you had a nice weekend too! Take care ^_^

Yeah i have heard plenty about Dark Water, just never got round to seeing it..it's on my list though. Asiam Horror as so much more atmosphere and ambience to it..my favourite is The Eye..i loved that film :)
I'm not into Yakuza films as such, just like a good movie. Only really been into Asian cinema for about a year so the whole style and feel of the movies is still a spectecal to me and i seem to enjoy all the ones i see no matter what they are about. Love Korean stuff too, like Attack the Gas Station and My Sassy Girl :)
And yes i did have a great weekend, 2 good un's on the trot can't be bad can it ;)

You're not the only one who thought that!!! *lol* =P
Ah, The Eye is great - funnily enough, it's a Pang bros. film, and it was Danny & Oxide Pang who directed Bangkok Dangerous that i mentioned before! Their work is fantastic. i recently bought Bangkok Haunted (also directed by them) which is a trilogy of creepy/ghostly stories - great stuff. Speaking of The Eye though, it will be interesting to see what Hollywood does with its remake of the film. Prolly dumb it down like they did Ringu...
>>> i seem to enjoy all the ones i see no matter what they are about.
It's exactly the same for me - there are so many films that would be cheesy in any other language/genre, but somehow Asian cinema manages to pull them off! ^_^
Have you seen Chungking Express?
OooOoOo - i was also wondering if you like any Takeshi Kitano films? (o_O)?!
Take care - hope this weekend's another good one! ^_-

I got that Bangkok Dangerous on queue :))
Yep seen Chungking express..a charming movie..i love the guy telling the soap it had let it's self go and put on weight. ;) hehe
Yeah I seen, Brother, hana-bi, Summer of Kikijuro (my fave) , sontaine and i know there are others just can't remember off the top of me head...i got a few films of his i ain't watched yet too..hard boiled, getting any etc. I like his style...so sombre..you just get drawn into his movies. He's a funny guy too.
Yeah hope you have a great weekend too..take care :)

i think you listed all my fave Kitano films up there. Violent Cop is pretty good too. Kikujiro's great though, isn't it?!! i'd probably say it's a tie between that and Hana-bi as my fave. Sonatine's good but i always feel so sad when Susumu Terajima is killed =( That seems to happen to him a lot in Kitano films... :/ And then there's what happens to him in Ichi the Killer... that guy just doesn't seem to have any luck!
Ooo - last weekend i bought and watched Miike Takashi's City of Lost Souls - really enjoyed it! Some of the obscure humour reminded me of Versus.
Anyway, do you mind if i add you to my lj friends list? You seem like a really cool & interesting person ^_^

City of lost souls is a great movie..i want his jacket :) & the cock fight scene totally threw me hehe funny stuff.
Just got suicide club...read the review too..sounds like my kinda film.
With summer of Kikijuro if that was an American film it would have been so cheesy i could'nt have watched it...Kitano made it touching, funny and it actually brought a lump to my throat and not many movies can do that to me :)
I gotta admit, i ain't to up on who's in the movies, but i just learned a new guy from you :)..i should pay more attention.
You should see some Korean stuff i reckon you'll like it :) Attack the gas station would be a good obne to start with..very funny movie.
gonna watch Suicide club now :)

i still think it should come with a warning though - beware, this film features a catchy song sung by a strange glam rock guy - i just can't seem to get that damned ROLLY song out of my head now! *lol* >_<
Hehe - ol' Susumu... i just don't understand - maybe he's been typecast as the semi-aimiable guy that always gets killed/kills himself!?! He just stuck in my head because he got such a raw deal in every film i saw him in (except Hana-bi)!
i'll definately have a look out for some of the Korean stuff - thanks! ^_^
