I am sorry to have missed the movie last night. Perhaps there may be a time that I can watch it with Monica, and she will cover my eyes during the scary parts. Forgive me, but I still have a fear of crowds.
Home is a marvelous place, and I am glad to return knowing that I need not pack up and leave again in a day. There are papers to write and a job to find, but for the weekend, I would like to simply take care of my leg, knit and visit quietly with dear friends.
This job was a decent learning experience for me, and I have come away with greater self-knowledge.
...
I have lots to say on many things, but here is what is weighing on my mind the most:
Guantanamo Bay.
There's the refugee situation of Iraqis, continuing humans rights violations and persecution in China, the deaths in Darfur, the impending ethical dilemmas of regional drought in the U.S.
and so on and of course and human nature and all that jazz
but I'm going to start with this issue:
My writing abilities are much diminished at this time, yet I am endeavoring to send one letter a week to a number of persons (as yet undetermined) protesting the unethical and illegal existence of the Guantanamo Bay detainment camp.
I have felt helpless these last five years, watching (and not watching) my government impose themselves on individuals without due process. A letter writing campaign is the best I have thought of so far, and I welcome (please) participation and other ideas. I'm not concerned at this time about writing individual or original letters each week, but I am concerned with persistence and volume.
This is an open invitation to you, your friends, and all fellow humans to speak out against this injustice.
