He does tend to conflate things that aren't connected at all, though, and/or leave things out because they don't occur to him. I mean, he's only three and has been talking for... well, he only really got started after he turned three (and still struggles at times). So that means that often he'll jumble stuff together as he recalls them. That's also why he first said he hadn't played with Augusta today, even though he later said they played at the end of the day. Because his initial recollection was of her being gone/playing with some other children and not letting him join, and he didn't consider that her playing with him later was also "today" and part of the question. He's by far getting better at it, though, (the staff at his pre-school says he's rather impressive for a late talker and I'll take that as truth ;)) and indeed does at time have the ability to lie. ;) He will say his legs hurt if he wants to be carried, or that the kids chase him around and hit him (I've been bullied and we've looked into it - it's all lies. Kupo is actually very popular. It makes me angry that he'll even tell a lie like that, but he doesn't really get it yet, unfortunately) if he doesn't want to go to pre-school that day. One time he even went as far as to claim to Maz that I'd given him permission for something when I had done no such thing, but that's about as intricate as his lying gets. And that day he learned that his parents actually communicate and that we were NOT amused. lol.
I gotta admit I don't know that much about "normal" kids :P I've certainly heard, though, that kids that young don't so much lie as they... substitute their own reality :D I guess that's what happens when he makes stuff up?
Yeah. That definitely happens a lot. Mostly when he says something untrue it's either because he thinks it's true or it gets him the result he wants. He doesn't really get that it's bad to say something that isn't true because he wants to be carried and saying his legs hurt will get him carried. I think that blends together with how part of language is abstract and he can't really tell abstract and untrue apart yet.
