Mitchell

When we adopted Sydney, Mitchell got the most upset. He hid under the bed for almost a week and hardly ate anything, therefore he lost a lot of weight. We've been giving him extra wet food and canned salmon to try and beef him up but it just wasn't working. I started looking for clues online and I discovered that he has most of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism which is fairly common in older cats. Mitchell is around 10 or 11. Some of the symptoms are increased appetite, weight loss, hyperactivity, aggression, stuff like that. Jeff took him to the vet today and after $205.50 of tests they said there is strong evidence of hyperthyroidism and possibly kidney issues. They will call Jeff tomorrow with the results. The only treatments for hyperthyroidism is medication for the rest of his life or surgery. Apparently the medicine makes kidney stuff worse and it is very common to have both issues at the same time. He also apparently has a heart murmur but it's probably because his system is running in high gear at the moment. On a scale from 1 to 6, 6 being the worst, the vet rated the murmur a 4. Damn. He's been so healthy until now. My favorite kittehs always get sick. :( We can't afford this right now but I love him!

Like I don't have enough going on at the moment.....

I are sad.
