It looks as though I was successful in only 5 out of the 13 categories that I made predictions. Mariah still had a good night with 3 wins out of 8. Also, she nailed her performance of Fly Like A Bird with a short We Belong Together intro. I believe her next single, officially from her label, will be Fly Like A Bird, the song she performed after the We Belong Together intro. I don't see this as being a huge radio hit, but as this being more of a "validation" single in that it's all about the vocals. However, Twista will be releasing his and Mariah's collaboration, So Lonely, on his cd and her Ultra Platinum Edition re-release, which will surely climb straight to the top of the charts (I'd predict #1 here). So, essentially, she'll have released 6 singles off of The Emancipation of Mimi. It's a little sad that there are at least 4 or 5 more songs on the cd that could have been very successful singles. I thought she looked beautiful. Her dress was gorgeous. While her hair looked great, I will say that the long curly "mermaid" hair make her tits look huger than life. If only she'd straighten her hair, it makes her look less voluptuous. Whatever, though, she was hot tamales and owned the night. I do feel a bit robbed that all 3 of her awards were preshow awards and she didn't get to get up and make any speeches.
Ok, the Grammys have come and gone. Here are the categories in which I made predictions in. If I was wrong, my original prediction will be listed in red and the winner in blue. If I was correct, the winner will be highlighted in purple.
Category 1 - Record Of The Year
We Belong Together - Mariah Carey
Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz Featuring De La Soul
Boulevard Of Broken Dreams - Green Day
Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani
Gold Digger - Kanye West
I guess Kanye and Mariah split their votes. I don't think Green Day was undeserving, just that it wasn't the most deserving.
Category 2 - Album Of The Year
The Emancipation Of Mimi - Mariah Carey
Chaos And Creation In The Backyard - Paul McCartney
Love. Angel. Music. Baby.- Gwen Stefani
How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb - U2
Late Registration - Kanye West
U2 my ass! Ha! I am most upset about this one as Mariah should have had this.
Category 3 - Song Of The Year
Bless The Broken Road - (Rascal Flatts)
Devils & Dust - (Bruce Springsteen)
Ordinary People - (John Legend)
Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own - (U2)
We Belong Together - (Mariah Carey)
I am a little baffled here as I had never even heard of this U2 song until I sought it out after the nominations.
Category 4 - Best New Artist
Ciara
Fall Out Boy
Keane
John Legend
SugarLand
Category 5 - Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
It's Like That - Mariah Carey
Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson
Good Is Good - Sheryl Crow
I Will Not Be Broken - Bonnie Raitt
Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani
Kelly deserved this and I'm glad she got it.
Category 6 - Best Male Pop Vocal Performance
Sitting, Waiting, Wishing- Jack Johnson
Fine Line - Paul McCartney
Walk On By - Seal
Lonely No More - Rob Thomas
From The Bottom Of My Heart - Stevie Wonder
I just really like Jack Johnson and felt he was overlooked here.
Category 7 - Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal
Don't Lie - The Black Eyed Peas
Mr. Brightside - The Killers
More Than Love - Los Lonely Boys
This Love - Maroon 5
My Doorbell - The White Stripes
I will say that when I made the choice it was definitely a toss up between these two.
Category 11 - Best Pop Vocal Album
Extraordinary Machine - Fiona Apple
Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson
Wildflower - Sheryl Crow
Chaos And Creation In The Backyard - Paul McCartney
Love. Angel. Music. Baby. - Gwen Stefani
I'm very happy Kelly won. I would have been mad had she lost to any other person in this category except for Gwen (who was shut out this year).
Category 23 - Best Female R&B Vocal Performance
1 Thing - Amerie
Wishing On A Star - Beyoncé
We Belong Together - Mariah Carey
Free Yourself - Fantasia
Unbreakable - Alicia Keys
Category 26 - Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance
Mine Again - Mariah Carey
Summertime - Fantasia
A House Is Not A Home - Aretha Franklin
If I Was Your Woman - Alicia Keys
Stay With You - John Legend
This is the second most upsetting category to me, second to Album Of The Year. I just really like this tune and was so happy it was nominated. For those unfamiliar, this is the song in the commercial that Mariah does where the guy has the wireless music from Intel and she's sitting on his lap in the library. Great song.
Category 28 - Best R&B Song
Cater 2 U - Rodney Jerkins, Beyoncé Knowles, Ricky Lewis, Kelly Rowland, Robert Waller & Michelle Williams, songwriters (Destiny's Child)
Free Yourself - Craig Brockman, Missy Elliott & Nisan Stewart, songwriters (Fantasia)
Ordinary People - W. Adams & J. Stephens, songwriters (John Legend)
Unbreakable - Garry Glenn, Alicia Keys, Harold Lily & Kanye West, songwriters (Alicia Keys)
We Belong Together - J. Austin, M. Carey, J. Dupri & M. Seal, songwriters; (D. Bristol, K. Edmonds, S. Johnson, P. Moten, S. Sully & B. Womack, songwriters) (Mariah Carey)
Category 30 - Best Contemporary R&B Album
Touch - Amerie
The Emancipation Of Mimi - Mariah Carey
Destiny Fulfilled - Destiny's Child
Turning Point - Mario
O - Omarion
Yeah, had Mariah not won this then the Grammys would have forever lost any sense of validation with me.
Category 33 - Best Rap/Sung Collaboration
1,2 Step - Ciara Featuring Missy Elliott
They Say - Common Featuring Kanye West & John Legend
Soldier - Destiny's Child Featuring T.I. & Lil Wayne
Numb/Encore - Jay-Z Featuring Linkin Park
Rich Girl - Gwen Stefani Featuring Eve
