Still deaf.
I've been using the vinegar/water/hydrogen peroxide wash for a few days. Like the wax stuff, it seems to help briefly, then the clogging returns. Today, on the advice of the internet and the pharmacist at Vons, I picked up their generic version of Mucinex sinus decongestant. Took one about forty-five minutes ago, and now my ear hurts. I... hope that means it's helping? At least it's doing something...?
Last night I learned that Elisabeth Sladen, who plays Sarah Jane Smith, passed away. It's pretty sad news. I've only watched the new Doctor Who series, but her performance in The Sarah Jane Adventures makes me want to go seek out her episodes as the Doctor's companion. SJA is a ridiculous series in a lot of ways, sort of Doctor Who Lite. But thanks in large part to her performance, even the over-the-top stuff (which is pretty much everything) comes across as real, believable, and moving. The supporting cast is committed, funny, and talented, but she's the one who really carries the show and gives it a heart. It's amazing to me that she was able to do all of this and never give any sign (at least that I'd noticed) that she's been battling cancer the last several years. Maybe we'll find out now that this was the reason for a few episodes where they found a way to take Sarah Jane out of the picture and focus mostly on the kids. But I have to say, those episodes were never as rich.
I read that they already have about half the next season of SJA in the can, so there will still be more episodes released, I guess. What that suggests is that Elisabeth Sladen was filming basically right up until her death. Unbelievable. I really hope that also means that she wasn't suffering much.
You'll be missed, Ms. Sladen. I will go back and watch those episodes of yours.
i'll still be a geek
