random technology gush

Man I love my dvd/bluray player (& matching tv).

So, you may remember my ramble back in May about our need for a new device and the interestingly complicated time we had hooking our older tech up to it. Turns out--I still cannot play movies on my ipod over the screen, but how likely was that to happen anyway? All the movies on my ipod are ones I own on dvd. The music function works just fine, so party mixes are doable.

But the gushing of the current is the dvd players memory. So, T has helped me to begin one of the tv viewing tasks I'd wanted to accomplish this summer--rewatching Veronica Mars. One of the discs was all smudged--possibly due to my not having watched them since I leant them out years ago now--and it was pausing and not moving forward so I stopped the disc, opened the player cleaned the disc and put it back in. Which is when I discovered that the player would recognize that this was the disc I'd just pulled out and cue me up to where I'd just left off.
Sweet. On top of that, since the player and the tv are synced...if I turn the tv off the player will automatically shut itself down...and as I discovered today if you turn the tv back on say after dinner the player will boot back up and in less than twenty seconds begin playing right where you'd left off.

Oh how I'd missed the ability to pause/stop a movie in the middle and pick up right where I'd left off hours later. You know like you can do with a vhs tape but previously I could not do in anyway--unless I left the player running--with a dvd.

Did I mention that all of this starting back up happened with the touch of one button? Just one!

When I move out...my brothers had best not be surprised if these little babies follow me to my new place. ^_^
