And I'm posting this here cause I feel like babbling for a bit.
So, yes, I'm working right now. It's only temp work, but it's work, and that's all that matters. What is it, you might ask ?
Yup, the dreaded telemarketing gig. The one everyone hates because they don't want calls after 8 PM, the one you get a sore throat from because you talk so much.
But it will give me the one thing we all want : MONIES. Woot!
So yeah. I started on Wednesday. For the most part, I'm not complaining. The chairs are very comfy (comfortable butt is comfortable) and the headsets aren't too bad (Sennheiser, even! Would be great if the little cushion thingies stayed attached to the headset though. :P ) .
What am I doing ? Oh, thankfully, not selling anything. Just surveys about what people think of their bank. Hours are Monday-Friday 5pm-9pm, and Saturday 10am-8pm . Not bad, considering Vincent lives four metro stations away from there so I have an actual excuse to crash at his place on Friday evenings :P (I did ask beforehand, I promise ;) ) .
One of the supervisors took me aside yesterday, and the "biggest" remark she had to make was that I use "polluting" words (as in, I do seem to read the script just fine, but I fill in the blanks with words that may become annoying to the customers) . I also seem to have a hard time "redirecting" the conversation to my question, sometimes.
Thing is, sometimes it *is* hard to "interrupt" people to ask my questions. Because we're already being intrusive enough as it is, IMO. But I guess I can work on it.
I was a nervous wreck 45 minutes after I started, the first day, but I guess I can handle this. The supervisor who came to me told me I have a nice soothing voice (or something like that) and I am also very polite. For example, the end of the script says something like "This survey is now over, I thank you on behalf of Company X and Y for your participation." Normally, I should read the script and leave it at that, but most of the time, I do add the "thank you, have a nice day ma'am/sir thing.
I will honestly say I do not "love" the job. But being a rational person helps a LOT.
And the most important thing : this is going to help LOTS. Mentally, physically, this is going to put me back into a better shape. Woooohoooooo!
