Cambodia Pic Spam - Voen Sai

I just finished reading Geoff Ryman's 'The King's Last Song'. It became the latest addition to my short list of all-time favourite books, because of its hauntingly beautiful imagery, poetic language, excellent research, sympathetic characters and a touching plot.

Reading it I felt the warmth of the sun on my skin, the dust was tickling my nose, smelt the mosquito repellent and all the magnificent temples of Angkor we had seen appeared before my inner eye. As long as I was reading, I was back in Cambodia and able to enjoy a mini vacation.

Everybody, it's a highly recommendable read, whether you've ever been to Cambodia or not! Go, go, go, read it!

Now, pictures! Day trip to Voen Sai, the province's 'capital' with a boat trip to the Chinese colony. Eleven pictures under the cut.

Waiting for the ferry to cross the Se San River

Young Lao Buddhist monk we became friends with. He was an absolute sweetheart who was happy to exercise his three week's worth of English lessons talking to us ^__^ .

Chinese colony on the other side of the river. Happy recollections!

Next week's Lok Lak, perhaps? Just kidding ...

Jackfruit or: A Mouthgasm Of Flavour.

Buddhist temple and monastery. From the architecture you can see that it is of Laotian origin. This is where we met our friend again.

Dragon Boats. The bracket at the bow is where the ritual Dragon's head goes.

I've decided to unlock my travel reports. We'll see how it goes.
