Chapter 105 ~The Girl~
If Jin seemed to have made it his mission to surprise Kame as often as possible.  Sometimes it was something like that first wonderful date.  Sometimes it was something like a less-than-ideal attempt to cook… well, Kame wasn’t quite sure what that blackened thing was though he suspected it was some kind of meat at one point in its existence.  He hadn’t really wanted to eat it but he made himself choke it down because of the dopey smile and glowing eyes Jin had as he watched him eat the… whatever that was.

And sometimes it was a sudden serenade, accompanied by guitar playing.  Not all of the songs were as amazing as the first one, though.  When Jin started singing, “Go club, get drunk, you stupid shit,” all Kame could do was shake his head and remind himself that Jin had many other fine points and that maybe he meant it to be funny anyway.

Not that Kame would ever, ever tell Jin that.

But those weren’t the only ways Jin liked to surprise him.  When Jin found the way up to the attic (well, it was more of a tower than an attic because it was just one room instead of stretching across the whole church), he pretty much dragged Kame up there where he’d already laid out a blanket.  They had a picnic and then made love bathed in the beautiful multicolored light shining through the stained glass.  Nobody had ever realized you could get up there.  You could see the colored windows from the outside but they’d kind of assumed it wasn’t accessible because they hadn’t really found a door to get up there.  Jin found it.

Well, more of a pull-down ladder than a door but the point was, he found it.  And it really was beautiful up there.  And that wasn’t the only place they had sex, either.  Jin had the good sense not to try in the alley after the first time he’d suggested it but they did find other places.

And Jin seemed to love driving him out of his mind with desire, driving him crazy to the point he was begging for more.  At first, Kame had been a bit concerned.  He thought… well, there were things he’d done before, things to entice the customers his father brought to him, that were a lot like that if you only compared them on the surface.  And even though it didn’t feel the same, he was worried he’d stir bad memories this way.  He didn’t want anything he had with Jin now to be tainted by the demons of his past.

But Jin seemed to understand that.  Not only that, but he seemed to have figured out that it was actually helping Kame to have his level of comfort slowly pushed in this manner.  Things he wasn’t one hundred percent sure would be okay even if it was something he wanted.  Things he’d never have the courage to ask for or to initiate on his own.  Because every time Jin did that, Kame claimed more of his life back for himself.  He couldn’t explain it and he’d never be able to voice properly the gratefulness he felt for having his continual trust in Jin rewarded with a healing heart, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t acutely aware of it.

So when Jin unexpectedly climbed on top of and then over the desk to straddle him, Kame froze for just a second in surprise before yielding.  To be honest, he wasn’t ever sure at first why he tensed because the taste and feel of Jin slowly exploring his mouth was completely arousing.

It took a moment, but he did finally figure out what was nagging at the back of his mind just as Jin broke the kiss.  The door.  The door was open.  Not far, but still…

“J-jin…” Kame protested as Jin slid down his body, down to the ground under the desk.  “What are you… the… the door… op-” but as Jin’s hands busied themselves with Kame’s zipper, brushing almost carelessly over the fabric constraining him, all Kame could do was moan.

Looking up from the floor without stopping in his attempt to slide Kame’s pants down, Jin gave a wicked smile and said, “You might wanna keep quiet.  The door is not exactly closed.”

“Yes, that’s why I… oh, god…” Kame’s eyes rolled back as Jin’s mouth was suddenly surrounding him, so hot and wet and perfect.  He didn’t know why Jin ever had the foolish notion he wasn’t good at this because he really, really was.  From the very first time Jin tried it, he’d approached the experience with a kind of curious experimentation that taught him rather quickly exactly how to drive Kame wild.

Secretly, Kame thought that the real reason Jin liked to inspire such overwhelming desire in him was simply because he knew he was the only one who ever had.  He was the only one who ever would.  And though Kame couldn’t give him his innocence since it was taken from him so young, he could still give Jin desire with abandon that would be his alone.

He could feel Jin’s tongue swirl around the head of his now shaft as Jin backed off a bit to tease.  It pulled a whimper out of him but before Kame could really protest the loss, Jin swallowed him down to the base again.

Kame tried to bite back another moan but the best he managed was to keep the volume down somewhat…

…which turned out to be a very good thing because that was the moment Koki pushed the office door further open with a, “You in here, Kame?”

In his instant panic, Kame scooted his chair, which had slid a bit away from the desk with Jin’s path down his body, back towards the desk a bit forcefully, accidentally gagging Jin who had to back up further under the desk.  “Ah…” but he had no idea what to say.  He was secretly counting his blessing that the design of the desk was such that at least Koki couldn’t see Jin under there or see that Kame’s pants weren’t exactly on properly but rather pulled down to his knees.

“Yuya was lookin-” but Koki stopped, eying Kame with a searching expression.  “Are you feeling okay?  You’re kind of… flushed.”

“I’m f-fine!” Kame croaked, trying to subtly shove Jin away from him with one foot but not meeting with much success because Jin was being stubborn.  Did he want Koki to figure out what was going on?  “Tell Tesshi…”  What would get Koki to leave?  It was so hard to think!  Damn Jin and the hand creeping up Kame’s inner thigh!  “…that I have to… ah… do some things this morning but I… will be in the… kitchen after… breakfast?”

“Are you sure you’re-”

“Fine!  I’m fine!” he interrupted loudly in an attempt to distract himself from what Jin was doing, how he had chosen that moment to both wrap his lips back around Kame’s shaft and ghost his hand the rest of the way up Kame’s thigh to caress an extremely sensitive spot.  It took more self-control than Kame would have credited himself as having to keep his eyes from rolling back in his head.

He was going to kill Jin for this.  Slowly and painfully.  The man was dead.

Koki gave him a strange look but finally nodded and turned to leave.  But as he reached the door, he turned back to face Kame and added, “Oh, if you see Jin, tell him I left the grocery list on the fridge but that he’ll have to find someone else to take him.  That, or walk.”

Biting back another moan, “If I… see him…”

“Right.  If you see him…” Koki shook his head with a small chuckle and left the room, locking and closing the door securely behind him.

The moment the door closed, Kame shoved himself backwards, away from Jin.  He whimpered at the loss of those talented lips around him but he just mentally told his body to shut up because he needed to rant at Jin for a moment…

Jin didn’t give him the chance but rather just scooted forward, licking his lips.  “Yell at me later, Kazu-love.  Right now, I want the taste of your skin and I’m pretty sure that’s what you want, too…”

And how could he argue, when Jin was looking at him with such burning eyes?

Jin took his lack of response as permission and swallowed him down once more.  And finally Kame could hold himself back no longer.  He gave himself over fully to wet heat of Jin’s mouth, the silken feeling of his lips and tongue, and the searching fingertips exploring every inch of flesh they could reach.  He could feel himself approaching that shining white line, every bit of him reaching for that relief and just as he was about to tip over it…

… Jin pulled back, denying him the release his hungry body was begging for.  All Kame could do was cry out Jin’s name with a frustrated groan.  “W-why… did you… stop?”

“Oh, were you close?  Sorry, I didn’t realize.”  But the wicked grin and the sparkle in Jin’s eyes spoke pretty clearly.  Jin did it on purpose!

Grumbling, Kame said, “Like hell…”

“What’s that, Kazu-love?” Jin asked as he crawled back up Kame’s body to claim his lips, unbuttoning Kame’s shirt as he went.

Kame normally let Jin control the kiss because he liked the expression of the raw passion his lover felt for him, but not this time.  He pushed Jin’s lips apart almost forcefully with his tongue, not giving Jin even a moment to catch his breath.

It seemed to take Jin a moment to adjust to the surprise of Kame’s aggression.  The hand that was trying to pull Kame’s pants the rest of the way off paused but not for long.  And when they were gone, the hand travelled back up his thigh only to circle around his now painfully hard member.

Kame had been about to complain that Jin still had his pants on but he completely forgot about it when Jin’s hand started stroking him.  As Kame’s eyes rolled back and he moaned again, Jin whispered against his lips, “I’ve never had someone want me the way you do.”

“You know how much I want you…” Kame responded, his voice husky, “But you still tease me so…?”

“Absolutely,” Jin breathed, pressing gentle kisses along Kame’s jaw and throat while continuing the maddeningly slow movement of his hand.  “You…” another kiss, “tease me with…” and another kiss, “your every breath…”

Jin’s words were driving him just as mad as his hands and lips were.  Kame didn’t want to wait anymore.  He wanted to feel Jin moving inside him, to hear the sounds of pleasure from his lover as the two of them became one.  He wanted to show Jin wholeheartedly again that he was his and his alone, and for as long as Jin would have him (forever being preferable, of course).

With searching fingers, Kame sought the hem of Jin’s shirt.  Jin released Kame’s shaft in favor of helping further their collective nudity.  And when the clothes were gone, Kame pushed Jin back against the desk, giving himself room to finally stand.

From there he pretty much dragged Jin across the room to the sleeping mat.  They started out with Jin on top but after a few minutes, Kame rolled the two of them over so he could ride Jin.  He knew how much Jin loved watching the way he moved above him like that.  There was something in his eyes that made Kame feel powerful in moments like that.

And when they finally both came Kame collapsed on the mat next to Jin, one leg still thrown haphazardly over the man’s body.  Jin chuckled, deep satisfaction evident in his voice as he said, “I still say we need a mirror in here.”

“Then buy one,” Kame sighed contentedly before remembering he was supposed to be mad at Jin.  “And what the hell were you thinking, doing that with Koki in here?”

“Consider this payback for two days ago,” Jin laughed.  He wasn’t even a little sorry, was he?

“But that wasn’t my fault!” Kame whined.  And it was true.  There had been an incident between Junno and Yamashita, when the former found out the latter had sex with Tatsuya at the rough trade house.  The rest of Kizuna had to pull them apart and Kame had to play mediator.  Yes, he’d been in the middle of “something” with Jin at the time, but…

“You were on this mat.  This mat is just us,” Jin reminded him.

“And I’ve told you there’s nowhere in the whole wide world where I don’t have Kizuna in my care.  Can’t you understand that?  It’s not about you or us or this mat.”

Jin didn’t answer.  Instead he stretched dramatically and said, “I gotta go to the store.”

“You’re mad, aren’t you?”

“Look, Kazuya…” and Jin sighed, untangling himself the rest of the way from Kame so he could find his clothes.  “I know how important Kizuna is to you but don’t you think I’m important, too?”

“It’s not a contest, Jin.”

“Except sometimes it is.  You drop everything to come to Kizuna’s aid, even when they can probably handle it without you.  But you wouldn’t drop everything in the middle of gang business to come be with me.”

“Jin…”

“Am I wrong?”

Jin didn’t stay for the answer.  The moment he was dressed, he left.

What more did Jin want from him?  He already gave him parts of himself nobody else got to touch.  It wasn’t that Kizuna was more important necessarily…

But that’s exactly how he was acting, wasn’t it?  Maybe Jin had a point.  But what was he supposed to do?  He couldn’t just abandon Kizuna no matter how much Jin meant to him.

You know what?  He didn’t want to think about this right now.  Better throw on some clothes and grab some breakfast before it all disappeared.  Both Jin and Koki would kill him if he didn’t eat.  And he refused to let his disagreement with Jin ruin his mood for the rest of the day.

+++

Jin regretted walking away like that. Actually, he regretted the whole conversation.  He should have just kept his mouth shut.  The long walk to the grocery store gave him plenty of time to mentally kick himself for it and the walk back was giving him even more.

He knew before becoming involved with Kazuya that he’d always come in second when it came to Kizuna.  He understood it.  Really, he did!  He just…

But his train of thought was interrupted when he bumped into a small girl.

She couldn’t have been older than six or seven years old, if that.  Her hair was long, almost down to her lower back, jet black and would have been so pretty if it wasn’t all knotted and dirty.  The dress she was wearing was also dirty and tattered.  It was too big for her and it left her arms bare.

That was the worst part.  She had dark finger-shaped bruises on her upper arm, more bruises around the collarbone, and marks around her wrists.  Who knows what other marks were under that oversized dress?  And she was thin, so very thin, like she hadn’t eaten in a week.

She was also barefoot despite the fact that it was starting to get so cold when the sun went down.

He just… he had to help.

Setting the two grocery bags down, Jin knelt down in front of her.  “What’s your name, sweetie?”

“Name?” she asked, staring him in the face with unblinking eyes and a blank expression.

“Yes, name.  What does your mommy and daddy call you?”

“Girl.”

“You don’t have a name?”

She stared at him for a moment before answering once again with, “Girl.”

“Are you hungry?  Do you want food?” he asked, trying to keep his voice soft and soothing.

“Food?”

“Yes.  Food.”

She nodded.

There wasn’t anything in the bag that was ready-to-eat.  He’d mostly gotten canned goods for the church.  Besides, he couldn’t just leave her there with no jacket or shoes for when the sun goes down and no adult to watch her.  “We have food at the church.  Will you come with me to the church?  There’s also other kids for you to play with.”

She didn’t answer and her expression didn’t change one bit.

“Come on, it’s not too far away.  Can you walk or do you want me to carry you?”

All she said in reply was, “Food?”

“Yes, food.  This way, sweetie.”

She followed him the rest of the way to the church without so much as another word.

By the time they got to the church, breakfast was over.  Ah, well.  He had to put the cans in the kitchen anyway; she could eat there.

Kazuya and Koki were both in there washing the last remaining dishes from the breakfast line.  They were chatting and neither seemed to realize he was there.  Kazuya giggled and all Jin could think was that he hoped they weren’t gossiping about him.

But then he remembered the little girl at his side.  Kneeling down again, he softly said, “Wait right here, sweetie.”

She didn’t answer.  She just stood there with that blank expression, though her eyes followed his every move.

Jin set the two grocery bags on the counter and then walked the last few steps towards Koki and Kazuya.  He puts his arms around Kazuya, causing his lover to jump in surprise and drop the dish he was rinsing into the sink.  It broke.  Turning in his arms, Kazuya exclaimed, “Damn it, Bakanishi, didn’t I tell you to st-”

When his eyes landed on the little girl, he stopped mid-sentence.  “Who is that?”  It wasn’t a judgment; Jin was pretty sure Kazuya understood why he brought her the moment he saw her.

“She won’t tell me her name.”  Then again… “She, uh, might not actually know it.”

“Is anyone out looking for her?”

“Even if there was, I wouldn’t let them take her.  Look what they’ve done to her!”  This wasn’t the response he was expecting at all.  “What, am I not allowed to rescue people?”

“Of course you are, Jin!  I only meant…” but Kazuya seemed to realize Jin was about to argue, so he stopped him with a finger to his lips.  His eyes were kind as he continued with, “Look, you did right by bringing her here.  I just needed to know how well we’d have to hide her.  If they’re looking for her, we’d need to keep her out of sight for a while.  If not, we don’t have to be so concerned over who sees her here.”

Oh.  Well, that did make a lot of sense.

“I don’t know.  Can this discussion wait until after we feed her?”

Koki, who had up until that point been studiously ignoring the two of them, chimed in with, “I got the dishes, if you wanna take care of this.”

“Thanks, Koki.”  This was from both Jin and Kazuya.

Jin went to the fridge while Kazuya walked over to the little girl.  There wasn’t any sausage or biscuits left from breakfast, but maybe he could make her a sandwich…

Kazuya, meanwhile, knelt down in front of her and asked, “What should I call you?”

There was a moment of silence but then the girl said, “Girl.”

“You don’t know your name or you don’t want to tell us?”

“Girl.”

Kazuya smiled at her, “Girl is a good name.  It’s a pretty name for a pretty girl.  Have you been on the street a long time or a little time?”

Jin hastily fixed a baloney sandwich.  It wasn’t much but when you don’t eat for a long time, it’s better to start slowly.

Girl didn’t answer Kazuya.  She just stood there looking back and forth between him and Jin.  Finally she said, “Food?”

“I’ve got it, right here!” Jin said.  He didn’t bother to grab a plate; he just took the sandwich over to where Kazuya was talking with her.  “I hope you like baloney?”

Girl looked back and forth between Jin, Kazuya, and the sandwich a few times but rather than reach for the sandwich, her eyes darkened and she started to slide the strap of her dress down over one shoulder.

Kazuya stopped her.  “What are you doing, sweetheart?”

“Pay.”

Jin’s heart was breaking.  “No, sweetie, it’s free.  The food’s free.”

She looked at him again and asked, “Fu….rii…?”

“Free.”

“Free…”  She looked confused, which was perhaps the closest thing to an emotion he’d seen in her so far.  After a couple of seconds, some understanding filled her eyes and she warily asked, “No pay?”

“That’s right.  Free means no pay.”

She snatched the sandwich from his hand and took off out of the kitchen and down the hall.  She was gone before Jin could even register he was no longer holding the sandwich.

“Aw, and I wanted Koki to introduce her to Hotaru and Reina…” Jin sighed dramatically, but the truth was, he felt both pretty good and terribly sad in that moment.  He couldn’t do anything about Girl’s past but hopefully things would be better for her now.

Though there was something not quite right about her…
