Chapter Four ~The Reporter~

The handsome reporter with the brilliant smile and the light brown hair slipped his arms around Ueda’s waist, pulling him closer and kissing him passionately.  God, it felt good.  But… Ueda pushed him away.  “Not here!  Someone will see!”

Frowning, the reporter pouted, “But Uebo, I want you…  You’re still ashamed of me?”

“I told you, I’m not ashamed.”  Ueda sighed.  His boyfriend Taguchi Junnosuke could be so whiny at times.

“Then why have you still never invited me to your house, or taken me out on a romantic date where people might see us?”

“It’s just nobody else’s business, Junno.  You know I love you, right?   Why does everyone else need to know it, too?”

Junno sighed dramatically.  “I guess if you’re going to be like that, I could always tell you that this,” and he pulled a manila envelope out of the bag he had slung over his shoulder and started waving it about, “is none of your business…”

Wow, that was fast!  Ueda had only called him half an hour ago.  Reaching for the envelope, Junno pulled his hand back at the last moment, keeping it out of Ueda’s grasp.

“Please, Junno, let’s just go somewhere we can be alone.”  He really needed that file.  Also, even though he’d pushed his boyfriend away, the memory of the brief contact had made him hungry for more.  It’d been two whole weeks since they’d seen each other last and that was practically unbearable.

“Your place.” Junno said stubbornly.  Ueda was about to give in and agree when he remembered Jin and Kamenashi.

Shaking his head, Ueda said, “No.  You can’t come to my place for the next few days.”  And Junno finally looked angry.  Waving his hand in front of him, Ueda said, “No, it’s not like that, I swear!  I’ll invite you over next week, I promise!  Just… I have reasons you can’t come to my house yet and they have nothing to do with us!”

Still sulking, Junno said, “Uebo…”

Glancing around quickly to see if anyone was watching, Ueda pulled Junno back to him by the front of his shirt and gave him a quick kiss.  “Please, let’s go somewhere that it’s just the two of us.”

Finally smiling again, Junno shoved the folder back into his bag and said, “My apartment, then.  Let’s go!”

And ten minutes later, they were there.  As soon as Junno closed the door behind them, Ueda practically attacked him, pressing against him and trapping his mouth in a hot kiss.  He felt Junno moan into it and the younger snaked his hand up under his Ueda’s shirt to brush his fingertips softly against his chest.

When the kiss finally broke, Junno smiled and whispered, “I knew you wanted me, too…”

Ueda pulled him purposefully towards the bedroom.  “I might have missed you a little bit, I guess.”

Junno giggled.  Seriously.  An honest-to-goodness giggle.  But that was just one of the many, many things Ueda loved about him.  For a reporter, he was surprisingly open with Ueda.

Though his jokes left a little something to be desired, that was for sure.  Stupid dajare…

Three hours later, Ueda and Junno were still in bed basking in the warmth of their satisfaction.  Junno was laying on his stomach, head resting on his arms with Ueda sitting next to him.  On the night stand within easy reach was a small bottle of ink.

With a very soft bristled calligraphy brush, Ueda was carefully writing a simple love poem on his lover’s back, trying to not drip ink on the sheets.  This was just something they did; at least, when they had the time.  But Ueda figured Jin could wait a bit longer.  It hadn’t been just the sex he’d missed over the past two weeks.  It was the intimacy, the quiet moments where it seemed if, for just a bit, the world stood still.

“That’s a new one, isn’t it?” Junno asked lazily.

Laughing slightly, Ueda responded, “It is.  It still amazes me you can tell what I’m writing.”

“Well, I am a reporter.  I’m supposed to be observant, right?  Speaking of which, why do you need that information?  Are you working on your next mystery novel?”

Ueda nearly dropped the brush in surprise.  It really was a good idea; his publishers had been putting a lot of pressure on him recently for a new novel but he’d had a serious case of writer’s block.  The whole thing did promise to turn out to be interesting.

“Hey, will I be in the new one too?”

Laughing, Ueda said, “You weren’t in the last one, silly.”

“You keep telling yourself that, baby.  So, it is for the next book?”

He didn’t want to lie.  Not to Junno.   “Well, now it is.  But it’s not why I asked…”

“Then why?”

“I… I can’t tell you.”  God, he felt terrible, saying that.

Junno pushed himself up to a sitting position.  “You don’t trust me?”

“Of course I trust you, silly!  But, you’re a reporter.  If I tell you, you won’t be able to use it without breaking my confidence.  And if you discover it independently later, it’ll still feel that way, to both of us… ”

His lover was pouting again.  “Well, then why should I give you the information?  You know more than you’re telling me and my editor assigned me this one, so…  If he knew I was handing out our hard work to other writers, he’d have a conniption.”

Ueda thought about it for a moment.  “What if… I give you a bit of info that none of the other journalists will have?”

Junno was practically drooling over that.  “Really?  What do you have?”

“Let’s go through the file together and I’ll tell you what I can that you can use for your article, okay?”  He set the brush back on the nightstand next to the bottle of ink.

Reaching for the bag on the floor by the bed, Junno pulled the folder out of it again.  Opening it, he started to spread pictures and reports out on the bed in front of them.

“Okay, victim Kamenashi Kazuya…” he was pointing at the same photo Ueda had seen on the news yesterday with Jin.  “Age seven at time of kidnapping.  Snatched from a park ten years ago while out with his mother, Naoko, age twenty-nine at the time.”  He pointed at another picture, this one of an attractive woman with curly black hair.

Fishing through the pages, Junno snatched up a sheet and said, “Statement says she turned her back for just a moment and he was gone.  Apparently they went to that park pretty regularly and she thought it more or less safe.”

Ueda started fishing through the stack of papers as well.  “Did they have any suspects?”

“Not a one.  Well, at first they thought it might have been the dad.”  Junno pointed to another photo.  “Ryuichi, age thirty-three at the time.  It seemed they were having marital problems.  But he was cleared.”

Disappointed, Ueda asked, “This is everything?”

Sighing, Junno said, “Yeah.  That stack is the statements from various people at the park that day, but they all pretty much say the same thing.  Nobody saw it happen.”

“So where are the parents now?  Are they still together?”

“Maybe in a morbid sort of way.  They’re both dead now.”

“What?!”

“Yeah, the mom killed herself about a year later and the dad drank himself to death.”

“Oh, god…” Kamenashi was going to be devastated.  Probably.  Then again, he hadn’t wanted to go home.  But… nothing in the pile seemed to explain why the boy didn’t want to go back to them.  “Can I take this with me?  I have to go soon and I want to look through everything a bit more.  Maybe take some notes for my book while I’m at it.”

“I figured you would want to leave with it.  I have another copy so yeah, take this with you.  But don’t show anyone.  My boss will kill me if he finds I gave it to you!”

“Sure thing…” Ueda said uncertainly.  He couldn’t exactly tell Junno he planned to show it Jin, could he?  But Jin wouldn’t say anything about it so it wasn’t exactly a lie, either, right?

Smiling that brilliant smile that made Ueda practically melt, Junno asked, “So, what do you have for me?”

“The missing boy…  He can’t talk or maybe it’s that he won’t talk.  I’m not sure which.  Either way, not a single bit.  Can’t write either.”

Junno’s jaw dropped.  “Seriously?  How did you find that out?”

“I… can’t tell you.”  Again, he felt like a major ass but…  what else could he say?

Somehow, Junno managed to look both extremely disappointed that Ueda wouldn’t say more and extremely thrilled his article would have something none of the others would.  How was that even possible, anyway?  Disappointment and thrill were kind of polar opposite.  Sometimes Ueda was pretty sure he didn’t understand his boyfriend nearly enough.

“But you’re absolutely sure about the whole mute thing?”

“Absolutely.”

The two of them started putting everything back into the envelope.

“Well…” Ueda started.  “I guess I should go…”

But Junno pulled him closer and kissed him softly.  Whispering, he said, “Soon.  But not now.  You’re mine right now…”

Chapter Five ~The Confusion~

A/N: So... hi, Junno.  Nice to meet you LOL.

Don't worry, better, more detailed sex later.  It's just, this was plot sex and if you stretch plot sex out too much, it loses its purpose.  So, yes, I promise better smut later!

And next chapter will be back with Jin and Kame.

And my standard reader dissatisfaction warning applies.  I'm still deathly allergic to fireman's axes and other implements of painful massacre.  So if you get unhappy, use your words LOL.

By the way, what do you guys think about the whole thing with the calligraphy etc?
