Shiny things
Three things that have made me happy in the past few days. They are all vids. Yay, vids!
I don't know if any of you have seen the show Life After People. It airs on...some cable channel...History? Discovery? One of those types. And it's all about what happens to human-built structures and artifacts if suddenly, for no real reason, every single human being were to be gone from the planet. They do this weird anthropomorphizing thing where they want you to feel bad for the rotting crops and the crumbling roller coasters and failing dams, but really, if we're not here...who'd actually care?
But
chagrined takes Great Big Sea's cover of "It's the End of the World as We Know It" and vids the show to it and it is brilliant and amazing and, no lie, I grinned like a loon through the whole thing. I always thought "Nothing But Flowers" would be a great song for this show, but the energy of GBS's version is what makes this thing so fun. End of the World.
I feel safe in saying that most of my flist will enjoy it.
Next, two gorgeous Amy!Pond! vids set to songs by two of my absolute favorite musicians.
such_heights mixes Vienna Teng* and Amy's journey in the gorgeous, haunting Blue Caravan. Of course the blue caravan is the TARDIS. Of course it is. Oh, my heart.
beccatoria uses Dar Williams's "When I Was a Boy" to explore Amy as a girl and a not-so-grown-up, and her relationships with the Doctor and especially Rory. I wouldn't have picked this song right away for Amy--the vidder and others in comments point out that she's not much of a tomboy--but the song's really about being yourself and staying true to that despite family and societal pressures, and what's more Amy Pond than that? I got sniffly at the "woods where I would creep" verse...there's just so many layers in this season and this character, and the vid captures them beautifully.

*I bought my ticket last night--I'm going to see Vienna Teng in May! She doesn't come to this part of the country often, so I am very excited, and am burning sampler CDs to try to get my sister and SIL to come with me.
