The Hueco Mundo Opera
Scene 5
Duettino (Duet)
A partly furnished room, a large sofa center-stage. Ulquiorra, on his knees measuring. Orihime, in front of a mirror trying on a bridal bonnet. Orihime and Ulquiorra sing because they are young and in love.
ULQUIORRA (measuring):
Cinque ... dieci ... venti ...
trenta ... trentasei ... quarantatre
ORIHIME (looking herself in the mirror):
Ora sì ch'io son contenta
sembra fatto inver per me.
Guarda un po', mio caro Ulquiorra
guarda adesso il mio cappello
ULQUIORRA:
Sì mio core, or è più bello,
sembra fatto inver per te
ORIHIME & ULQUIORRA:
Ah, il mattino alle nozze vicino
quanto è dolce al mio/tuo tenero sposo
questo bel cappellino vezzoso
che Orihime ella stessa si fe'.
ORIHIME:
What are you measuring, my dearest Ulquiorra?
ULQUIORRA:
I want to see if the bed,
Which Aizen-sama gave us
Will go well into that spot
A new carpet will go here…and here.
I’ll have the sofa moved there,
What do you say my love?
ORIHIME:
I say all is tastefully done,
And if a complaint has nestled in my throat
It doesn’t have to do with the furniture, no
ULQUIORRA:
A complaint?
ORIHIME:
I know how much regret my pleas extract from you.
That is why I hold them down, in front of you
…But…but
My sibling in heart if I were to see…
ULQUIORRA:
Seriously have we begun to take ourselves, yet again?
A moment ago we were showered in hilarious happiness.
But now the gravity of our history, draws our hearts down.
A great political mind
The Prince will decide his fate.
There is nothing we can do.
How fast hilarity teams with pain,
Our fickle joy to bring down
And remind us of the fate of Death
That closes around each and everyone,
Taking one shape or another
When I hear you talk of everything that has to do with the past
…helplessness, I feel
Memories are a black stain we can’t scratch
Our skin fills with the deathly white and marks of a sickness
That we can’t prevent
Only regrets this world has to offer,
Others only pain, have in store for us
And love will be bitter even if pleasant should it have been.
Orihime approaches him with a glass of water and a handful of antidepressants.
ULQUIORRA:
Thank you, these should be enough.
Arrancar errand boy enters.
RANDOM ARRANCAR ERRAND BOY:
Fourth Espada Ulquiorra-sama,
is to appear at the throne room at once,
By orders of his Majesty Aizen-sama
ULQUIORRA:
I am off, do not forget to eat.
Random Arrancar errand boy and Ulquiorra exit. Orihime sits on the couch. Long pause.
Scene 6
Tesla darts into the front stage. He then turns towards the audience.
TESLA:
Orihime-san! I have news of a terrible plot!
ORIHIME:
The plot is terrible as it is,
Impossible for it to worsen more
However, how dare you to enter my rooms
Announced!
What terrible plot you plot against me, plotter!
Have you come, again your ministrations to commence?
My future husband’s wrath fear!
TESLA:
No! My heart is pure in truth!
The task of the villain I was obliged to uphold
For it is law to obey my lord.
But behind my chest, affection really lies.
Your gentleness, your terrible fierceness my noble feelings have moved.
Past my horrid appearance look
ORIHIME:
It’s not that horrid, you only miss an eye.
TESLA:
With that other eye, and with my two ears,
I witnessed the horrors in store for you.
ORIHIME:
Speak, at last, man!
TESLA:
The pharaoh’s daughter, you upset!
ORIHIME:
?
TESLA: (baffled)
Ichimaru, the slender, sly, white fox
Abhors your very image,
even if in a room you’re constantly locked
ORIHIME:
Who would have thought!
The story of Tamamo no Mae is about to repeat itself.
The conspiracy against me, you are here to reveal
But why are we stalling?
TESLA:
It’s an infamous, cheesy trick,
In order for suspense to build
ORIHIME:
Suspense has built, no more of this nonsense
My heart will fly out of my chest!
TESLA:
Eeeeww!
Your to be husband, was sent off to betray you, despite his will!
Instead of marriage, death you will receive!
ORIHIME:
Frightening to hear!
The how explain!
TESLA:
Ulquiorra, to your death will agree!
Numerous arrancars, your bed will come to ornate
For the marriage
And while you put on the wedding dress,
A crimson knife of some assassin we’ll be driven
Deep in your breast
ORIHIME:
…
The bitter tragedies of my life
Never seize to end.
Separated from my family
Separated from my brother
Separated from friends
Friend of foes,
Traitor and weak, a slave,
The touchstone of fail,
Of sorrow…
On a boat I stand
Waving farewell
If in such a state
Help I am not supposed to ask,
Then what else will I do?
Sit here and dehydrate?
Never more
Tesla, become my aid, I offer you my hand!
The Prince I am off to find.
The political disputes we will solve
And plea for my case
Orihime exits the stage, followed by Tesla. Tesla pauses before exiting completely.
He exposes his smexy chest and with that, the hole at the place of the heart.
TESLA:
Behind my chest
Nothing lies!
The audience observes, gasps and faints. Tesla exits.
