Sometimes Yunho thinks he sees Jaejoong out of the corner of his eye or that he hears that familiar laugh carried by a particular gust of wind. He doesn't bother looking back anymore -- he's grown used to the illusions, acknowledged that days and weeks and too much time spent wanting have started to materialize in his daily life.
He's half-dreaming, or so Yunho tells himself as he sinks into his bed for the night. What he'd give to go back to the apartment and surround himself with everything that was just plainly them them and them. He closes his eyes and feels the long days of filming weigh down on his shoulders, the courtcase, the rumors, the stress of it all just--
"I'm scared, Yunho," Jaejoong whispers and Yunho thinks that he hasn't heard him sound like this in so so long, like the teenage boy he met a decade ago, except now, overwork and exhaustion color his tone.
Yunho thinks he's half-dreaming, that he's imagining the mattress dip and a warm body slip by his side because Jaejoong, he reminds himself--Jaejoong is in Japan, he's with Yoochun and they're doing promotions, keeping the name 'Tohoshinki' in everyone's hearts and minds, while he's here, back in Korea, struggling without the safety that the number five had always provided and--
"I'm here," Jaejoong whispers as he slips his arm around Yunho's waist and pulls him close. "I just booked myself a ticket from Tokyo and I have to go back in a few hours but--"
"Shh," Yunho whispers, the corners of his mouth turning up into a smile. He's here, of course he's here, of course. Because he's Jaejoong and Jaejoong's always done the most outrageous things without telling him or thinking about the consequences of his actions or what would happen if--
"I just wanted to tell you that--" Jaejoong continues.
"I'm scared too," Yunho says before turning around to look at him.
He presses his lips against Jaejoong's forehead and whispers a quiet, "Thank you," before drifting off to sleep.
