His name was Dan.
He was more of a friend through a friend but a friend nonetheless. He was part of a gaming group that had met up fairly regularly through the '90's and a little bit through the turn of the century. Funny guy, very very laid back. In our Rolemaster game he played a healer named Death, who had gloves that could make his hands look like they were bone. That was his schtick. He was an odd man, but pretty cool overall, and I don't recall ever seeing him get angry about anything. I hadn't seen him in years, and I only just heard this news recently from another friend. He had some sort of metabolic disorder, very rare, that required him to eat lots of salt, so we always joked about him being a salt vampire. Apparently that caused some severe complications to a flu that he had recently, and that was that.
So he is the second friend who has died in the past couple of years. Neither of them close, but both of them decent enough people. Of course that's just how things go, the older one gets, the more people who move on through the great cosmic wheel. But hey, it's springtime. Life always begins anew.
