This has been a fun, sociable weekend. On Friday I went down to Sheffield for Wai and the hostess's (?!) combined birthday party, which Wai missed for a significant amount of time as a result of tequila shots. Saturday afternoon Sanna and I went to a BBQ, thrown by her supervisor professor Julian. We didn't know much about the social code of the event, as we were supposed to act like non-idiots, talk about sensible things and look as if we were not misplaced. On the way we popped in Tesco's to buy some Breezer, white wine and vegetarian quiche in case of lacking food I could have. When we arrived, it turned out the quiche (goat's cheese and tomato I think it was) is Karen's (Julian's wife) favourite. Points to Sanna! Overall the occasion was very nice, with excellent food (first starting out with burgers, and then a huge buffet) and great weather. They had a ping pong table and table football in their garden. When Sanna, I, Julian and someone else were playing the latter, I was laughing inside everytime Julian made this little girly scream when we either scored or almost scored. And the thing to know about him is that in Uni he mainly grunts.

Apparently one of the current PhD students in Manchester is a Justin Bieber look-a-like.
