All a dream...

The sun was sitting in his nine AM position in the sky as a cool spring breeze blew through my unruly hair. I was carrying my backpacks, both filled with clothing, down the brick sidewalks of some college in the mountains. I watched my surroundings as people scurried to and from classes, and the new year students endeavoured to find their dorms before their first classes began. I eyed the names of the buildings as I walked, to get a feel for my surroundings, looking for the one which I would be calling home for the next few months of my life.

Matching the name on the paper to the name on the building, I ventured inside and sat my belongings on the sofa in the lounge. A male student, surfer by the looks of it, was gathering his belongings and hurrying out the door having realized he was in the wrong dormitory. Another lady, upper classman, took over his room as soon as he left. She had sandy blonde hair and was wearing a short blouse buttoned all but the final one at the top, and had it tied off on the bottom, exposing a lean stomach. It was paired with khaki shorts and sandals. A picture out of an Old Navy catalogue.

I looked at my watch and saw that it hadn't even reached 9:30, so I decided to take my body wash and locate a shower. After my shower was done, I returned shirtless to the lounge, located my stuff, and layed down on the couch with my blanket and the remote to watch TV. I scratched an itch on my lean torso and yawned as another group of students came through the doors. This one was a colored guy and his posse. I paid no attention to them as they walked right past me and took up residence in one of the rooms in the dorm. I took a drink of water from my gallon water jug.

Having decided nothing good was on, and realizing I needed to pick out my own room and bed, I threw on a T-shirt and crossed over to the opposite side to look for a bed to call my own. I found a room with two sets of bunk beds in it, and crossed to the far wall to place my belongings on the lower bunk. "Having room mates will just keep me from being bored," I decided as I sat down on the matress and began unpacking some things. Then, freezing in embarassment, I relaized I wasn't alone.

On the top of the other set of bunks, was a sleeping girl. Young looking by comparison, her face was framed by red hair the firey color of a setting sun. She looked peaceful as she napped there. I wasn't embarassed I had picked a room with a girl in it as much as I was that I may have awoken her. Then, laying on the bottom bunk, with her eyes open, was another girl, smiling broadly. She winked at me and I blushed again.

"L-looks like this is a co-ed dorm," I managed through my awkwardness.

"I was hoping you'd say that," she smiled in response as she crossed over to my bed and sat beside me. Her hair was a silvery platinum, and her demeanor was one without reservation. She touched my cheek and smiled. "At least we got a cute room mate," she winked. She got up and returned to her bed, smiling as I got my books together and bumbled out the door, nearly tripping and causing her to giggle.

I went to class, and immediately put it all out of my mind. I was in a highly technical area, where I found some older classmates discussing the applications of modern technology to a growing economy. Some of the things they said began to baffle me. Then I began wondering why I was in a technology class and who in fact was paying for me to go to college. "Wow, you guys don't mess around do you," I smiled, making conversation.

"There is no time to mess around here Ananami," the older guy replied.

"Ananami?"

The sound of police sirens in the distance was my alarm as I awoke around 9AM. Police sirens are just another part of living where I do. Once a week at least I hear them. My foot hurting brought me back into full conciousness, and reaching for my Ibuprofen I realized, THIS is my reality.
