Meanwhile...

I just got back from seeing Shawn... Actually I have been back for a week. It was great to see him, but as to be expected, leaving was hard and painful. I know I chose this life, and I know that I would do it all over again without even so much as a second thought. I move forward despite the pain everyday becuase I love my husband, and no amount of distance or time will change that. We have made it so far in a year, overcome so much as a couple and as individuals. I am often awe-stuck. I am often taken aback by just how much our lives have changed, all becuase of one night... one moment in time. One leap of faith.

Anyway... about my trip to Hawaii. I got to spend 9 days with my wonderful husband... To be perfectly honest, I can't remember half of what we did becuase some days seemed like such a whirlwind. I conquered my fear of the ocean. Yes, I was afraid of the ocean. More accurately, I am afraid of being stung by a jelly fish and last time I was in Hawaii, there were jelly fish warnings on the beach. Since this trip there were no warnings, there was no fear. We went boogie boarding. It was my first time. Hella fun. And, believe it or not, I am actually pretty good at it...

The first night there, Shawn took an [unintentional] detour around the island. We ended up driving on the west side of the island (at least I think he said it was the west side of the island). The scenery was absolutely beautiful. It was the Hawaii that I thought I was going to see the first time I went out there. The best part of the drive- it took about five minutes for Shawn and I to fall into the same psuedo-bickering routine. Sounds funny I know, but it is almost a comfort to know that we can go months without seeing each other, with nothing but phone calls and sometimes only emails, and yet it takes mere moments for us to be "back to us". ("Us"... Still blows me away.)

I got to see the sub Shawn works, and sometimes lives on. It was an eye-opener. I mean, I knew the sub would be cramped, but... Oh, and it smelled. Really bad. And I felt really uncomfortable there.

We decided to stay in Waikiki again. Hopefully we will not have to again. Shawn and driving in Waikiki DO NOT MIX. It's kinda cute until he gets so frustrated he yells... Although, in retrospect, it is kinda funny.

We pretty much took it as easy as possible this trip. Went to the beach, went to the movies... spent one whole day DOING NOTHING!!! It was great! We didn't worry about sight seeing... I will be out there again one day, I can see them then.

I miss my husband. A lot. I kinda feel this underlined anger because I can not just be with him the way that other people get to be with their spouses or significant others. Our situation doesn't get to be so cut and dry. But what can we do, really?

Well... I need to go so I can stop trying to type and talk on the phone with Shawn at the same time...

Love,
Nic
