What can I say?

... Not much.

I think I've got a bit of the January blahs.  It's too cold outside, and I'm tired of freezing my A off everytime I step outdoors!  I feel for the people who have to wait for buses and/or walk to work.  Me, I don't really have that option.  Still, getting into a cold car isn't much fun either.  But at least I do have my remote starter - which seems like the best $500 I've ever spent, sometimes!

It's exam time, and I'm convinced that I'm more worried about finals than my students are.  They are Just. Not. Motivated.  They are giggly and annoying and distracted with every little tiny thing.  And I'm no better than they are.  They know exactly what to say or go to get me all off-topic.  What they don't realize is that I'm standing up there dishing out valuable information and they will wish they'd listened to it in the very near future.  Were my priorities always so unbalanced when I was their age?

A few of my students wrote this major exam today - a standards test we've all been preparing for four the last five months.  In the two-point-five years that I've been here, no one has passed.  And it's not that I'm that harsh or that lousy a teacher.  It's that the material is that concentrated and the test is almost random with respect to difficulty.  Plus, our scores are compared to those around the province - so the pressure is felt by me just as much (if not more) as it is by my students.  Luckily, the test today seemed relatively fair, and my kids feel confident that they are the first ones to pass in years.

Everyone is sick!  With it being so cold, and having indoor recess all week, the school is a variable petri-dish of germs and viruses.  Luckily, I've managed to stay remarkably healthy so far (*knocks on wood*) and only wish I could take a sick day to sleep and do nothing.  Said cold has also meant the kids are looney from being kept inside all the time.  Pair that with a full-moon, and it's been eventful.  I'm secretly glad I'm going to be out of the building for a couple of days.  Maybe the temperature will drop and they'll get it out of their system before I go back on Tuesday.

I've got a "festival of favourites" tomorrow night with friends (*waves to friends*), and I'm not sure what I want to bring.  We're all supposed to bring an episode of one of our favourite television shows.  Now, a few weeks ago... if you'd asked me what I would bring, I would have answered in a heartbeat.  However, my DVD collection has grown since then, and I'm having a hard time deciding.  Grey's Anatomy, or The West Wing?  Or something else altogether?  *sigh*  Dilemmas, dilemmas....

Okay, the cat is begging for attention.  I must go entertain her, or she'll make me pay for it at 1 am when I'm trying to sleep.
