RL & (*gasp*) writing Update

Hey everyone! (If there's anyone here any more, between my being a lousy friend and the upheaval on LJ recently.)

Just a little update on life: had a group of 17 exchange students this summer. It went AWESOMELY, though there were several moments of fail mixed in.

I'm working a bad job for a company that has been driven into the gutters in the last few years, but I am still working. Looking on and off for something better, but really just biting my nails until the next round of JET applications is released.

I'M GOING TO LIVE IN JAPAN NEXT YEAR IF I HAVE TO WHORE MYSELF TO EVERY DAMN LANGUAGE-CENTERED COMPANY IN THE COUNTRY!! BAAAAAH!!

In preparation for this, I'm seriously thinking of starting an online course in TESOL (i-to-i is the company a friend of the family recommended, $320 for an 80 hour certificate instead of $1300+ for an in-person class at the community college three cities away). I have to get that started soon, if I want to finish in time for the deadline.

Which would cut into my work hours. And my writing hours. Yes, writing! I know there's not a lot of people waiting with bated breath for Gundam Wing fic any more, or for my fics in general, but I'm trying to wake the muses. I've been working mainly on little scenes here-and-there for My GW/Flight of the Navigator fusion. (Duo gets abducted for eight years by an A.I. alien ship and hilarity ensues.) Here's one blurb:

“I am a highly advance artificial intelligence droid, sent to your planet for scientific exploration. My designation is-“ the lighted ball droned off an incomprehensible sequence of sounds and humms.

Duo blinked and shook his head. /You’ve got to be kidding me./ “Uh, what was that?”

The metal eye blinked back and repeated the sequence.

“Okay, that’s not helpful. Don’t you have a nickname or something?”

The white-blue ball stared at him. “Names are not relevant.”

“Okay,” Duo growled, getting annoyed with the cool, dismissive computer voice. “We’re going to have to spend some time together, you say. What are you going to call me?”

“Human.”

/You’ve have GOT to be kidding me./ Restraining the urge to slap his forehead in disgust, Duo replied, “Oh, yeah, that’s really friendly. I can see that this trip is going to be filled with sunshine and kittens.”

In other news, I had a great time at Bumbershoot last weekend where I saw the Bouncing Souls and Vienna Teng perform (not on the same stage, of course), along with a couple of comedians. All in all, it was a great day.
