The CBC just showed
this documentary about press coverage of the second Iraqi war. It's main theme is supposed to be the inherent conflict facing journalists and the new partisan twist that this particular war put on war journalism.
An interesting discussion about that dilemma emerges, but the real grab is not in talking to journalists but talking about what they saw and we didn't.
Part and parcel of the increased partisanship, naturally, is the mainstream suppression of the horrific reality of war, the suppression of images that in previous wars (1) weren't suppressed and (2) didn't exist to the scale they did in this case.
The website's photos are tame compared to the video footage in the documentary. It airs again on Sunday, November 30 at 10 AM on the CBC.
