Well, the mayor (who's already had his break down moment) has successfully passed his buck onto the governor and feds with his tears and hysteria on the radio, while the governor may pass the buck onto the feds simply because Katrina didn't target just New Orleans. Remember, NO wasn't the only place that was hit, but it's the one that getting press; if the rest of the state of Louisiana is in the same situation that NO is in, then the governor's got a real problem. Granted, I can't imagine a state government taking over NO with the same kind of thoroughness and authority a federal government can - for example, where're they going to find the money to evac 20K-plus people or the resources to drum up the National Guard when a good chunk of them are somewhere else?

However, if the other states - Alabama and Mississippi, you know, the ones that never get mentioned - are in the same straits as Louisiana, then the problem stops being the governor's and can be passed onto the feds.

On the topic of Brownie, is it just me or is that man woefully underqualified for his job? Anyone have a link to his resume?

Did you just use the word "thoroughness" and "Federal Government" in the same sentence? *giggle*

for example, where're they going to find the money to evac 20K-plus people

Irrelevent. Not my problem. They're Louisianna citizens, it's Louisianna's problem.

the resources to drum up the National Guard when a good chunk of them are somewhere else?

Whatever. Again, not my problem. If it was an issue, and the National Guard has said repeatedly it wasn't, Blanco could have picked up the phone and asked some of her neighbors to spare a few troopers.

Besides which, this kind of operation /has/ to be done by the National guard, under the control of the State. If the President Federalizes them, they fall under Possi Comitatus (the laws that forbid the military from engaging in domestic law enforcement), and can't be used for Law Enforcement (unless the rpesident declares an insurection in process).

Large Federal Government = Bad. That's just a basic fact.

Yes, but else are you going to support that pretty pretty military?

I have no clue what you're talking about. A large federal government isn't required to support the military.
