*************** Beware of Katrina E-Mail Phishing Scams *************

(Posted: Thursday, September 08, 2005)

In the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster, Internet scams are showing up that are attempting to take advantage of the generosity of individuals wanting to help the less fortunate.

Please ensure that your donations are going to legitimate organizations. A current scam is Katrina Phishing e-mails. Recipients are asked to go to a Web site and donate to Katrina victims via credit card.

Although the Web sites look legitimate, many are not. Instead, they are being used to steal credit card information. Do not provide your credit card, or other personal information to anyone you don't know, or are not certain is with a legitimate organization. Never respond to, or connect to a web site in, an email message that is from someone you do not know or from an organization you do not know is legitimate.
