So now it's fact that Barry Bonds has been using steroids. I suppose I have been in denial trying to believe that I am truly witnessing the greatest player of all time shatter baseball's greatest records. I understand that baseball has been a game of "cheating" (players tryng to get an advantage artificially) for years and that right now is probably the most prolific steroid use era in the history of the game. But how can we honestly believe in a sacred record, such as career home runs, knowing that a player cheated his way there. How can Bonds believe in his record(he says he did not know what the substances were, but we all know that is bullshit)? Even if it's true that Bonds would've broken the record without steroids, it does not dismiss the idea that a percentage of his home runs can be attributed to illegal performance enhancing supplements. Maybe an asterisk should be put next to his name when he breaks Aaron's record. There needs to be a way to distinguish between Aaron's era and Bond's era so that history gives credit where credit is due. It's disappointing knowing that many of my favorite athletes are using steroids, but I guess I should suck it up and get used to it. There is no end of the tunnel because there will always be new ways to cheat. We will still celebrate Bond's success, but now we'll really wonder what could have been.
