Arnold Judas Rimmer.
Age: 31, forever.
DOB: 9 July, 2149
Weight: 13 stone, approximately 185 lbs.
Height: 6'2" (He's a beanpole.)
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Hazel
KNOWN FAMILY CANON:
Mrs. Rimmer, Mother. (Headcanon name: Muriel. Implied Book Canon Name: Helen.) Was having an adulterous, on-going affair with Frank Rimmer, see below.
Mr. Rimmer, Father. (Headcanon name: Jonathan. No other name used anywhere in canon.) Turned down for the Space Corps for being one inch below regulation height.
John Rimmer, Brother. Became a test pilot in the Space Corps.
Frank Rimmer, Brother. The youngest captain in the Space Corps.
Howard Rimmer, Brother. Almost the youngest captain in the Space Corps.
Frank Rimmer, Uncle. (Implied in Show Canon: Uncle Frank is the real father of John, Frank and Howard.)
There are two female cousins mentioned in the show...and I can't recall which episode they're mentioned in. (I thought it was Marooned, but reading the script shows I'm wrong. OH GOD I'M SCREWING UP ON CANON WHAT WILL I DO?!) HAH. FOUND IT.
Two female cousins: Sarah and Alice. Two years older than Rimmer, twins.
KNOWN GIRLFRIENDS:
Sandra at Cadette School. (Book Canon: He barely got to first base with her, but lied to Lister about it during the episode Marooned.)
Lorraine. Met in a pub, tried to hypnotize her into going out with him. She had a metal nose, which he made endless fun of. She ended up climbing out of the window of the loo to escape him. (Parallel Universe.)
Yvonne McGruder. A single, brief liason with the ship's female boxing champion. She had a concussion at the time. (Thanks For the Memory.)
Nirvana Crane: Officer on the Holoship Enlightenment. Sacrificed her life so Rimmer could become an officer on the ship, which he then turned down to save her. (Holoship.)
KNOWN SCHOOLING:
Cadette School. I'm basing this on the episodes Marooned (again with that ep!) and Timeslides. In Timeslides, you see Ikkle Baby Rimmer asleep in a school dorm, aged 8. (With boxing gloves tied on. Implied: So he wouldn't masturbate at night. OH GOD.) In The End, Rimmer complains that he never stood a chance to become an officer because he wasn't Academy Educated.
SO. Based on all that, Cadette School runs from about age 8 to about age 15. What we in America consider Junior High School, or perhaps up to Freshman year.
Considering that Rimmer divorced his parents at 14, it's not surprising that he wasn't able to go on to the Space Corps Academy. Who'd pay his tuition?
CAREER:
Signed on with the Space Corps at the age of 16. Between 16 and 31, he attempted to pass the astronavigation exam every time he was allowed to take it. This means he took the test 15 times. He failed thirteen times, and had two "Unclassified" scores. Once because he wrote "I AM A FISH" five hundred times, did a funny little dance and fainted, and the second time just before the accident, where he tried to cheat. (See The End.)
In headcanon, I gave Rimmer his promotion to Second Technician after ten years of service as a Third Technician. Because, oh god, ten years of soulless grind, replacing crispy bars in vending machines and fixing porous circuits. His promotion happened due to the fact that SOMEBODY needed to take the job, and Rimmer was pretty much the only one left. The dregs of the Space Corps ended up as "Technicians." "If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well. If it's not worth doing, give it to Rimmer."
