TV show has noted controversial man as guest.

Noted controversial man says something controversial on the show.

Many people react as if this is entirely unexpected. What, a noted controversial person, saying something controversial? How DARE he!

The culmination of this is mentally unhinged union nutters calling for his resignation/sacking and asking their lawyers if they can take him to court.

Seriously, what the fuck? I'm a public sector worker, and I don't give a flying fuck about what Clarkson said. The man has a right to say what he thinks, even if people may disagree with him. Not least because, put in context, he was mocking the BBC's need for 'balance' by presenting two opposing views (the other of which being that striking workers are brilliant because everyone stayed home and London was empty). And for this he's forced to apologise? What the fuck, people?

If anyone should be ashamed at what they've been saying, it's UNISON, who've allowed the media to take the target of the story away from the important issues around the strikes and instead focus on the BAD MAN SAYING BAD THINGS, BOO-HOO! Oh, yeah, and guess which union is the one for the area I work in? No-one I'm left feeling throughly depressed by this total clusterfuck.

Given that I initially defended Clarkson's comments in conversation by pointing out that it was little different to Charlie Brooker trolling Cameron supporters or car drivers on Twitter, I was pleased to see Brooker tweet "He's essentially a right-wing version of me, but with better hair." At least someone out there is self-aware enough to know that just because they disagree with someone doesn't mean they should be sacked.

But UNISON? Yeesh. They do disappoint me so.
