Sometimes all I want is a haircut, you know?

I wandered (slowly) out of the house today in my new coat and found a tiny hair salon less than a block away; it's situated where a barber shop with a cult following had been for ages. Apparently, the guy who ran it retired, and the premises have been under Sue's control ever since. She took about 45 minutes where most other people in this city that I've gone to would usually take only 15 minutes or so, and what a difference it made. My hair hadn't been cut in about six weeks, and when you keep your hair as short and textured as I do, six to eight weeks without a cut looks, in a word, awful. Sue was complimenting me on my skin the whole time, though, so I must be doing something right in spite of still being mostly cooped up. Today was the first day I got through with negligible pain until evening hit; at that point, the effects of my trip out for the haircut became apparent, and I had to hit the ibuprofen hard. Overall, I'm not sleeping well.

rinue and liquidmorpheme came over for dinner. We watched a special online sneak-peek of this film, in which me, lifegivingsword, sovay, and rushthatspeaks were extras back in the summer of 2012 when rinue and liquidmorpheme had been charged with doing some background shots. I'm not quite certain when in 2015 it's being released, but it will be out there in some form or another soon enough. The cinematography is arresting, and the credits are warmly visual. However, the narrative is, to me, somewhat disjointed. The stories of the three protagonists don't hang together as coherently as I would like them to (or, indeed, as it is implied they should), although there's a truly stellar performance from a member of the supporting cast. Keep an eye out for it.

I started compiling my most recently published poems and the scant few newly written pieces I have from this year into the beginnings of a third collection. While some of these are online and in print, they are eighteen pages of work that have not been in any of my collections / chapbooks to date. I haven't written any poems this month, and that's frustrating given the vivid horrors my dreams have to offer at the moment.

off the map, dreams, health, film
