So, after several weeks made hideous by mega amounts of decorating/housekeeping/worrying, our guest (b_twin_1 ) finally arrived for the weekend on Friday and it was lovely to see her. We all went to both Hever and Leeds castles on Saturday, while yesterday we had been invited by the Canterbury Cathedral bell-ringers to come and watch their Sunday service ring. After a (to me) slightly scary climb up a narrow spiral stone staircase of 87 steps to the ringing chamber, it was a great experience. Having only just started to ring on a peal of six bells, seeing a group of 12 ringers and their bells in action was amazing. I did feel a bit edgy at times when one could feel the entire and ancient bell tower trembling slightly under the combined onslaught of the bell-ringing - but hey, it's been standing 800 years and surely wouldn't dare collapse on the day we happened to be there...
The rest of the (short) time our guest was with us we just hung out, trying to keep cool, ate fish & chips while sitting looking out to sea, and sat under the sunshade in the garden, just chatting. And then she had to go, this lunch-time, up to see another friend. Much too short a time.
