I've been writing a lot lately. Not here, obviously, but with a note pad and pen, I write sprawling letters that never seem to go beyond 18 pages. The nice thing about pen and paper is the portability. I take it with me to work, to parks with the kids, out and about. Now that Jen is my new roommate, I've had more time to myself in the past three weeks than I did in the previous 8 months. So many evenings that have become early mornings or late nights. Phoenix finally has a 24/7 coffee house and I've stayed there until my eyes burned from the smoke and my kidneys felt raw from too much acid coffee. Sometimes writing uninterrupted but it has become rare that I finish a page without someone striking up a conversation with me. I don't know what vibe I am sending but if I am sitting alone all sorts of people strike up conversations with me.

Returning to pen and paper has been satisfying. In fact, I'm surprised by how much I enjoy it. I've come to appreciate the differences between a well made pen and a cheap disposable ball point. I can tell the difference between my legal pad and my smaller notepad made of recycled paper. Good lighting, a comfortable chair, and if I'm lucky, a nice table. I even have a clipboard to help keep the pad stable,

So, this is where I've been, using ink by the inch and downing coffee. If you want a letter, let me know. E-mail me or comment and I'll send you one. I need more people to write to.
