Lamphere Highschool has become more stricter and stricter every year. For example; ever since I was a freshmen I was able to run in the hall ways before school started and I ran after school. The principle would see me and would just give me a friendly wave and say, “How’s your workout going for you.” Now this year I can never run the halls of Lamphere without a coach’s supervision, it suddenly got stricter in lamphere. Also this year the school has banned the website Myspace.com, along with other web sites to be banned in the future like Livejournal.com, and many more. The website is just like e-mailing, so if the school wants to banned myspace they should just banned all of the e-mail access too.
My space, give me back myspace. If you haven’t noticed that myspace.com the world wide website, a space for you and your friends has been band from Lamphere. The reasons for this is really preposterous. Myspace has been around the school for so many years now, ever since I was a freshmen. They banned it because they say it’s child pornography, that young boys and girls pose nude, and students can use it to cheat on tests. The truth is myspace is for friends who want to talk online, single people who want to meet other singles, matchmakers who want to connect their friends with other friends, families who want to keep in touch, business people, finding your long lost friends, and just having some fun.
Students at Lamphere have been using myspace for some years now, and just this year the administrators have blocked and named the site as child pornography. The staff did not really care that much before when they saw me go onto to my space during my lunch periods, and free time. Now I hear that there will be a ten day suspension if you get caught going to myspace, at anytime. The staff had this idea out of nowhere that myspace.com is some terrible website in which teens expose themselves. In my opinion myspace.com is a great website, I have met so many long lost friends from that website and even made new friends. The site is a great way of communicating with all your friends. Instead of calling all your hundreds of your friends you can leave a friendly comment to there myspace web page, and they will surly return a comment to you. Myspace.com also has a community page for people who attend the same school, this is handy because just incase there Is a major announcement anyone missed, they will be hearing through myspace.
I still cant get the fact out of my mind that myspace.com was labeled as child pornography when trying to log in. The website has its rules to enforce also, its not a website in which anyone can post anything they can. myspace.com has many rules, the number one rule is to not post any sexual nude pictures. The consequences for not following this rule is the banning of your account forever. There are many people who uses myspace.com, different kinds of people, people of different age groups, people of a different culture, and race. There are many well respected people who carries an account on myspace, such as our former president Bill Clinton and many more celebrities, it’s another way to see the world out there without leaving the comfort of your chair.
What I am trying to say is that myspace is not a bad website to go to, the stafff over exaggerate way too much about the negative things about the site. It’s a very fun enjoyable website for everybody.
I just hope through this paper the school can realize that the website is not bad at all. That blocking the website is just a waste of time because students can still by pass it and go onto the website during lunch breaks.
