So I just got back from seeing the midnight showing of Watchmen, and while I definitely enjoyed the movie, I was mostly surprised by the fact that it's literally 98% faithful to the graphic novel.
The one change they made I almost felt was necessary because it actually almost made me boggle in disbelief when I read it in the graphic novel. Really if you watch the movie, you miss out on a little backstory and a side-story parable. That's it.
Which made me wonder about something. It was so faithful, I'm almost disappointed. I'd almost have liked it to have been a bit different simply so that I would have seen something new. I think I always wished that movies be like their book counterparts. I realize this is a little different because it was a graphic novel (aka comic book on steroids)and therefore you have so many actual visual elements that you can put in directly, but it was weird. Now I think I'd rather have something vastly different simply so that you can see something new.
It's a rather different take than I would have expected for me to take.
