School

Two months into the semester and school and life in general has finally settled down into some kind of reasonable schedule or pattern. The first month was kind of crazy with tons of switched classes, wait lists, emailing and general chaos. The short version is it ended up all O.This semester I have an odd assortment of classes: everything from Decision Analysis and Decision Support Systems (business decision tools, excel, etc) to 19th Century British Literature (one of 5 guys out of 35 people in the class). Because I didn't get into one or two of the more technical classes I need for my second major (which I have to finish before the end of junior year) I will stay in Pittsburgh for at least part if not all of the summer to take some classes.

Hopefully I will also get the job I am applying for here at CMU. It's pretty good and would also add to the whole "leadership experience" thing that employers want to see. Speaking of employers, the big on campus employer thing for undergrads was Thursday. Everyone gets all dressed up and goes by the employer's booths and tells Microsoft/Google/NSA/XYZ Bank/etc why the should be hired. Generally I got one of three things: 1) We want juniors and up 2) We need software engineers 3) I'll pass your resume to xyz (i.e. go away now). It is still good to go as a sophomore to get practice, so that was fine.

In other news, despite some setbacks my new computer building project is going well. It's built (mostly) but it needs some tweaking. I'll have it running smoothly by the end of this month and then I'll post pics/log of the project. My whole "study more" project is going well too, with my roommate and I logging 15+ hours a week in the library in addition to an equal amount of time spend doing homework outside the library. Overall life's pretty good, although I have to stop goofing around so much at night. I work mostly in the mornings before class from 8:30-11:00 and going to bed at 3AM means 5 hours of sleep or so a night. Sometimes it's necessary because of homework, but most of the time I could go to bed a 1AM and be fine. On the upside, the semester goes by so much quicker this way. It's basically a 4 day daze that blurs together and then 3 days of clarity on the weekend with tons of sleep. I think I start by pushing bedtime up to 2AM and see how that works.

That's about it; day to day life in general is pretty mundane and boring.
