End of an Era

Got an email from a friend the other day.

I met my wife online in 1996.  Shit happened.  She moved here in early 1997.  We lived together.  In 1998, there was a gathering of people I didn't know in some house in the Catskills.  "Sure," says I.  My memory is of a composting FAQ from the '60s being discussed.  My recollection is that a gathering in '00 was not mentioned to me until quite close to its appointed time.  By '00, shit may have happened again, so no skin off my nose.  There was an '02, and an '04, and even an '06, which was probably the biggest one yet.  Each one fun.  Each one had new games, new people, new food.  Heck, new kids.

I tell you, I think the people at these gatherings are some of the most knowledgeable and interesting people I have ever heard of.  I may not have understood or been involved in  1/3 of what you were able to discuss, but it was never dull.

I'm not a core member of the group these gatherings draw (drew?) from, but I felt, and feel,  accepted anyway.  It's great, and a lot of my LJ and FB friends come from that group, so Yay!  When it comes down to it, I like gatherings of folks.  Maybe it's a Boteveg thing.  I'm hoping that we may be able to have some smaller gatherings at various times (like maybe a gathering for some folks who have a birthday ending in 0 this year...).  Maybe there's a hockey gathering.  Or a baseball gathering.  Or even a Curling gathering.

Point is, despite email and such, I hope we find a way to stay connected.  I know I'll be thinking of ways.

catskills, fun, gatherings
