A number of my friends have had to listen to me whine about the gaming group I'm in.
Well, last year one of them (think of him as the vermiform appendix of gamers) said "I want to run..." and he named a very elaborate system. Immediate reaction from those of us who remember him screwing up running D&D several years ago was "Uh, why should we trust you?"
Well, he got defensive and whined, and so we finally said, "Okay, run it."
That was a year ago.
A few weekends back we asked "How soon before you're ready to run?" Oh, he's not ready yet. Two other GMs have run in the meanwhile, and I'm the next up in the rotation. Now I was burnt toasty, and to make matter worse when we had our little "why should we trust you" talk the comment was made "Oh, you only know how to run QAGS." Bristle, growl, where did I leave my cricket bat....
So, while cleaning for a family visit, I found my original D&D books. I took a look and still had to say "Too hard for them." But it gave me an idea because in the same box there they were--my old Traveller books. Mwahahahahahaha!
And my Gming bug is rekindled. I have the fire, 4 sectors mapped and supplied, a mess of NPCs generated, and a story--a big damned story. I've written the character generation intro to the game so folks can make their PCs, and I've got a partial history of human space sketched out. I can hardly wait to get started.
And best of all, this game will answer everything that's made GMing a trial for me. I can hardly wait to see their pink little faces when the first PC does in chargen.
