I had a great time in Washington, DC two weekends ago. Staying at a place 3 blocks from the Capitol made the sightseeing easy, but I decided it'd be better to focus on seeing a couple things thoroughly rather than walking my legs off and hitting a lot of places for only a few minutes each. So this time it was mostly the Library of Congress and the National Air and Space Museum, with a few snapshots of places we walked by en route.
(After all, I can always go back. :)
Schwiiiing!
(Click the picture to see the whole trip album. I didn't do much touching up, so apologies in advance for the crappiness of the pictures.)
Besides seeing the sights, I also took time to catch up with Kym, who's doing much better than the last time I saw her. They're keeping her very busy at work, so she had to excuse herself on Saturday morning to go give a presentation, which went very well by all accounts. I did fall into my accustomed role as sounding board/sympathetic ear -- something about me just makes people want to open up, I guess -- but I'm always glad to listen and I was even happier that the stuff she wanted to vent about this time was much less catastrophic in nature than previous occasions. :)
Food was kind of an afterthought with all the wandering we were doing, and we succumbed to the lure of Papa John's and Subway. But I also tried a couple distinctively D.C. places, namely
Bullfeathers (grilled chicken sammich) and
Le Bon Café, whose French toast made a delicious breakfast on Monday morning. Rather than the battered and pan-fried Wonder bread I tend to think of when I hear "French toast", this was French bread that was battered, deep-fried and drizzled with powdered sugar. Uber-chewy, and the first time in recent memory I've needed to use a knife to eat French toast.
