So this last weekend I went down to New Harmony Utah which is 18 miles south of Ceder City Utah. My friend Heather's parents bought property down there and built a beautiful new home.
We went down for much needed R&R (Thanks Doug) and I used it a photographic opportunity. I took some amazing pictures. Hopefully this doesn't sound too egotistical, but I took some amazing photos.
I usually don't think highly of my pictures and I am very critical but for some reason the urge was there and it produced great pictures. So I am sharing them here with you. Of course I am always open to feedback.
This first one was a picture of a stink beetle. They grow huge down there. I was inspired so I got down on the ground and starting taking pictures. This photo was the first one snapped. By the third picture it had turned around, and stuck its butt in the air preparing to stink, and at that point I was out.
For some reason I was attracted to the bugs. Normally I could careless but this bug was beautiful and its colors were so rich. I later learned that this bug can completely turn its head around. Creepy. Yet so Pretty.
This is the same bug but a different composition. I love how you can see the Johnsons house in the background. The house color is a taupe type brick house, and its color clashed with the brilliance of the flower/bug. So I removed the color from the background and kept the foreground coloring. Makes for an astonishing picture.
There is something about the American Flag waving in the wind that just shoots straight to the heart. When we left New Harmony we stopped at the gas station in Scipio. The weather was just turning bad and the wind was high. At the bottom you can see the storm starting to roll in. Very moving. So I shot it.
These flowers grew everywhere and so I grabbed some extreme close ups.
If you know me and my photographic style then you know how I love a composition where the photograph shows depth. As I was shooting some pictures of the house I happened to look to my right and noticed this fence that the johnsons put in. It seemed to go into the mountain. So I shot it. I think this one might be my favorite.
This is the gorgeous view from the house. The Johnsons are so blessed to be able to walk out their door every day, and get bombarded with beauty. I love how the mountains look different depending on the time of day. Here they have a blue cast to them because it was early morning. In the next one you'll see how the same mountain can be so dramatically different with the late afternoon light.
Last picture posted for today and it illustrates how the lighting can dramatically change the mountain view. I love the richness of the color on the red rock. It was beautiful how the lighting highlighted the mountain later in the day.
Normally i think my pictures are just okay however this trip proved to be a great picture taking trip.
