Ideas come to me, like most creative types, usually when I hear part of a conversation, a news report, a song or read something that stirs me to think.
Yesterday I heard something that really clicked with me and I'll explore it but I want to explore it in a new setting for me: Mars. I've loved Martian stories since I was a child and some of the best works of SF have been set or involved Mars. The red planet seems to have some pull over us, doesn't it?
What I'm wondering is: Does every writer of fantasy or SF, or comics, has the urge to go there? What is it about Mars that's enticing (or not as the case may be)?

I'm watching Sunday Morning and there's Cameron talking about how 3D is here to stay. I really hope not. It's not a storytelling device, which is what Jeffery Katzenberg called it, it's an effect. 3D will not help you tell your story better. Filmmakers need to step up their storytelling skills to bring people out to theaters. What was it about the Lord of the Rings trilogy that made those films so popular? The story.
We should remember that.
