Finally getting a chance to post this! I've been thinking about making this for months, and actually working on it for a few weeks, and it's finally ready to post. I've never done a fanmix before but i knew that if i ever did one, it would be about Sam, so here it is.

Only If You Run - Julian Plenti
Season 1
I've had my frustrations but now i've found my place
When three-fold applications of doubt surround my fate
You will make it
Only if you run
The desk before Sam was crowded, littered with law textbooks open over each other. His head pounded with the strain of attempting to memorise so much information in one night. The library around him was near-empty, most students having turned in by this hour. But Sam was not going to give in. He had chosen to carve a new fate for himself, and he would not let it slide away.
Sam wondered if his father could see him now, what would he think? John Winchester: ruthless hunter, militant father. Single-minded and single-fated, just as he had hoped for his sons. One out of two wasn't bad.
Breathe - Alexi Murdoch
Season 2 (2x13)
Darkness falls upon you
Like a cloud across the moon
No eleventh hour reprieve
And all the suffering that you've witnessed
And the hand prints on the wall
They remind you how its endless
How endlessly you fall
On his knees by the side of a motel bed, Sam whispered a hopeless prayer. He had clung to his hope for salvation, a hope he was no longer sure he was even worthy of. The echo of water in the next room as Dean showered; his brother, so sure that Sam could be saved.
With all the darkness around him, inside him, was there a chance for him any more? Or was his condemnation guaranteed.
Sorrowing Man - City and Colour
Season 3
There's blood on our hands in this perfect madness
You're living on borrowed time
But you're not done
Oh, how you've lost your way
Sam felt a renewed weight fall on his shoulders, a weight comprised of his own guilts, as well as those of his brother's. His breath was breath he would borrow from Dean once the year was up. His heart told him to use every breath to keep his brother from the grave, but now there was her. Her, telling him that he must not save Dean, that he must become him.
Come Away to the Water - Maroon 5 Ft. Rozzi Crane
Season 4
Come away little lamb
Come away to the slaughter
Come away little light
Come away to the darkness
To the ones appointed to see it through
We are calling for you
We are coming for you
Warm blood rushed past his lips, between his teeth and down his throat. It used to burn, but not any more.
Ruby cooed him gently, a soft hand through his hair as the other flexed beneath his chin. She made him feel safe, sane. She assured him that it was the only way. The only option. This, or the world burns.
Sam drank his fill, drank until he was full. He reared his head from the soft flesh split in his hands, gasping. New life coursed through his veins, like Ruby's blood replenished his own, and all doubts washed away. Yes, this was the only way.
Little Lion Man - Mumford and Sons
Season 5
You'll never be what is in your heart
Take all the courage you have left
Wasted on fixing all the problems that you made in your own head
Your grace is wasted in your face
Your boldness stands along among the wreck
Sam sat, his hands fallen open upon his lap. To see them now, you would never know they had ended the world.
He could see it in the eyes of others. Though they tried to see him as anything else, they were looking at Lucifer's pupil. A sense of shame filled every breath of air that entered his lungs. A sense he could never breathe out again. But for all that he had done, Sam was not going to let it be. With every shameful breath left he would stand, even alone, bold among this wreck.
His hands had been the ones to start the apocalypse, and by those hands he would bring it to an end.
The Devil's Tears - Angus & Julia Stone
Season 5 (5x03)
He said "I am the Devil, boy,
Come with me and we'll make many storms"
He offered me the universe
But inside my heart was a picture of a girl
Sam's path became steadily darker with ever step, ever moving him close to Lucifer. The Devil had appeared, pronounced Sam the chosen one, and enticed him with fruitful promises that Sam cast aside. He would not fall into the Devil's clutches for all the promises in the world. The fallen angel had used a girl to buy into Sam's dreams, to open his heart. But what he did not know was that Jess would not earn him Sam. Instead, she was everything Sam reminded himself of to hold himself up to the light.
Catch the Falling Sky - Immediate Music
Season 6 (soulless!Sam)
No longer a man, little more than an animal. There was no grey area. There was no black or white. There was no differentiation at all. Only instinct.
No grief, no loss. There was patience, for as long as it took. No hesitation. There was thought, but not consideration. No predators, only prey. No rest, no need. No love, no hate. Only instinct.
Confessions - City and Colour
Season 6 (once Sam has regained a soul)
My verdict has come in
It says i'm guilty for my sins this time
I thought i could escape
But then i finally felt the weight
Of my crimes
There was a significant gap in Sam's memory, but that didn't alleviate the guilt he felt for all he had done in that time. He knew he could not peek over the wall without bringing it down; Dean had warned him of what chipping away could do. But Sam knew that behind that barricade was an avalanche of collateral damage, and he was responsible.
In Pieces - Shannon Noll
Season 7
You're in the air
Every breath that i take, i can't escape
Oh, everywhere i go
I feel you stare like you're there
Whispers, whispers, always in his head. Taunting him, haunting him. Lucifer's snake tongue slipped into his thoughts, infiltrating the reality Sam had found his way back to.
Sometimes Sam would look across the table and see Dean, all hard eyes and surly brow. And when he looked back up it was Lucifer, grinning knowingly, welcoming him back to the cage. And the truth was that no matter how sure Sam was that he had made it out, so had Lucifer, and he was here to stay. Stay until he ripped Sam apart, stay so he could toy with the pieces.
Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) - Green Day
Season 7 (7x04)
So make the best of this test and don't ask why
It's not a question but a lesson learned in time
Sam Winchester had started the apocalypse. He had invited demons into his blood and welcomed Lucifer into the world. He had been responsible for a great deal of darkness that had touched this world. And he had gone to Hell.
No darkness had been greater than the darkness that had soaked in his soul, and he knew this.
Sam Winchester owed a great debt for all he had done, and through all the trials and tribulation, the horrors of Hell, through all he had suffered with a penitent heart, he his heart had found peace.
