I saw the cutest thing a couple of days ago.
As I was walking home from a friend's that night I saw a cat and her kitten taking what I presumed was a little night stroll. The kitten was, like all kittens, extremely curious and hyperactive, running around from leaf to stone to gutter expoliting everything on its path, and the mother gently, but firmly pulled it out of places it could get stuck. Then out of nowhere it just bolted out of sight. I had reached my building so I went in. As I went to bed I heard noises outside. It sounded like a child crying. I found that rather weird that children were crying outside my window at half past midnight so I put my head out the window and saw the mother cat. (It is true what they say, cat wailing does sound a lot like children.) She was from what it seemed looking for her child. Heartbreaking! But nothing I could do. I went to bed and fell asleep. A couple of hours later I woke up by the sound of mewling. When I put my head out the window again I saw the little kitten calling, probably for it's mother. I think that was even more heartbreaking. After five minutes or so, during which the kitten had discovered me and tried jumping up to me (I live on the first floor, so it wasnt likely to succeed), the mother came running towards it. There was no hugging, cuddling or licking. Only looking and recognition, then they went. The least they could do was pretend they were happy to see eachother. Ah, well. I'm glad I'm not a cat.
