I commented in
el_jefe59's journal and he picked 7 of my interests and was curious to know more about them. If anyone wants to play just leave a comment and I will pick 7 of your interests for you to explain in a post in your own journal.
Okay, Jeffy picked all music and even the ones I am relatively obsessive about... Here goes:
1.
A Perfect Circle - aka Tool lite... I think their first album Mer de Noms is the best of what they have done though that could be because of the song 3 Libras. As put by Maynard, "If you've dated a Libra, you'll understand this song. I've dated three." Yeah, so have I...
2.
Blackfield - This ties directly to 5 & 7. One of the many musical endovers of my future husband (hey, a girl can wish) Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen. Probably the least proggy of SW's projects
3.
Catherine Wheel - One of my favoritest bands ever... I first discovered CW in 1995 with their single Way Down which didn't do well in the Bay area but caught my attention probably due to the vocals of
Rob Dickinson (I've got a wicked weak spot for odd falsettos which those that know me, know). They have stood the test of time in my cd collection... I can go an extended period of time without listening to a CW cd then pop one and get stuck on it for weeks.
4.
David Usher - David Usher is the singer for the band
Moist which seems to be on permanent hiatus. Also discovered by me around the same time I discovered Catherine Wheel and again having a lot to do with vocals that hit that weak spot in me. I have a deep love for his writing style and voice.
5.
Porcupine Tree - The amazing band with the very silly name... Originally started as a joke that had talent behind it. I first heard of them from a man on a dating site then forgot to check them out. Then one night while discussing Opeth with Monkey Mike, he mentioned Steven Wilson and was shocked that I did not know who he was... then he said Porcupine Tree and I remembered the man from the dating site, signed into MySpace, searched for Porcupine Tree and I've been in love ever since... Music I can feel effects me most... entire albums of theirs vibrate from my solar plexus through the rest of my body.
6.
Opeth - This is my official guilty pleasure... I hate that I love one album of theirs. I had heard of Opeth from a few different people... finally on the prompting of Monkey Mike, I had gone out and purchased Ghost Reveries and summed it up with, "the music is AMAZING but I HATE the vocals." At which point, the album Damnation was recommended to me. Same band, no growly vocals. This is another of those albums I can listen to on an endless loop. Hard rock with a jazz base (progish), no growly vocals, dark lyrics that you can feel. The rest of their music still isn't worth the vocals.
7.
Steven Wilson - *bats eyelashes* prolific song writer, singer, workaholic (four bands, plus solo work, plus production of other bands), sings, plays guitar and piano, wears glasses, goes on stage barefoot (I have no clue why this is something at gets me but it does... must come from all the drummers I've dated), skinny, long blonde hair, lovely british accent, photographer, scorpio eyes... *sigh*
(this will probably be edited when I am less tired.)
